Topic: Is this a good camera?

I have been looking for a better camera for about a month now (my old one is a logitech quick cam, which according to you guys, is the worst camera ever:( ) and have finally come across a decent one. The camera is the Nikon coolpix p500 (linky: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/ … .TechSpecs )

So my question is: is this camera good for stopmotion? it has manual focus and a controllable aperture, along with being small enough to fit on-set.
please give your feedback!

BTW, if you want to suggest something better, it has to:
A. be small enough for brickfilms,
B. have the option for both manual focus and exposure(with lock)
C. have yes under "capture images" on this list: http://www.boinx.com/istopmotion/support/inputdevices/

The 9000 is actually one of the better cameras! *Waiting for someone to back me up or disagree*

EDIT: Also, unless if you're using macro focus the P500 won't focus under 1 foot and 7 in. or something like that. mini/sad

for the resolution and size i would agree with you, but the auto light/focus is just to annoying. if you watch some of my films, you'll see the background becomes flashy, and the characters move in and out of focus mini/confused . This is because the camera decides to readout each frame. i need something that can be locked into one setting and not change mini/smile .

[reply to your edit] do you mean autofocus, or manual? it says it has a min. range of 1/2 inch or sumthin like that

Control of aperture, focusing, white balance, picture styles, shutter speed, iso, metering. That's about the majority. And you can do all of that on a dslr.

The 9000 is fine if you can get rid of the flickering.  It's a combo of lighting and settings, I think.  I was able to get good quality with it.  So was 0ld Scratch (he helped me with that).  You probably ran into Lord Lajaka, who gave up on the 9000 and thinks it stinks (because he got frustrated with light flicker and thought he couldn't fix it).  Most of your problems will be solved if you turn off all the auto settings.

If you're new to brickfilming and photography. I would say go for the Q9000 and set everything to manual.


The camera you want might require you to buy a expansive piece of software to grab your frames on your pc

I say keep the Logitech (I assume it is the 9000?). You just got to know how to use it to get pretty nice quality, I've been using it for nearly 2 years now with no intention of getting a newer camera any time soon. 

(I might do a video tutorial on how to actually work it, seems like you still have everything set to auto - NOT good!)
