Topic: Looking for a good lip-sync program

(Not sure if it should be here or in software and hardware, but correct me if I've placed it in the wrong area.)

I am looking for a good program for doing mouth animations/lip sync.
My computer won't run Glueface, so I'm looking for something else.
Doesn't Smeagol use VirtualDub for that? If so, is there a tutorial?
If not, what other options do I have? (Cheap options are prefered. mini/wink)

I may be getting This soon, will it do the trick? (If so, can you point me to a tutorial?) Thanks!

EDIT: Fixed spelling error in title.

Re: Looking for a good lip-sync program

The first link might help, if the music doesn't put me to sleep first. mini/lol
Although that method seemed a little...off. It wouldn't be in sync with the words, and just didn't look right.
The mouth would move at the same rate (open/close) and wouldn't change shape for the differant sounds.

Re: Looking for a good lip-sync program

Cheapest way would be to paint the mouths frame by frame in your photo editor of choice such as Photoshop or GIMP.

I think 0ldScratch is best of lip-sync stuff. And he uses After Effects (some).

I just need three more actors for my new film, check the casting call here.

I don't have After Effects, nor the money to get it.
(Anyone want to donate money to a poor brickfilmer? mini/tongue )

I'm trying to get Glueface to work right now, but are there mouths for it that look like the mouths in Zombie Genesis? I like that look, and I want to get as close to that as I can.

Re: Looking for a good lip-sync program

I believe I read somewhere that the way ForrestFire101 does it is he has drawn a bunch of different types of mouths in GIMP or Photoshop or MS Paint and then he just puts them where needed when needed.

Nick Durron uses After Effects to create his mouths (Using masks and the CC Cylinder effect). The same effect can be created by using Blender, or any other 3D program (This is how Smeagol creates his faces), though it is far more difficult and time consuming.

You would still need to map the face onto a cylinder to match the shape of the minifigure's head.

Yes, but the results come out very well. You don't happen to know of a tutorial on that do you?
If not, I think I can figure it out....maybe...over time. mini/eh

You know, I see so many mouth movement threads like this, why don't we just make one that has a bunch of links to tutorials, how-tos, the various programs and ways of doing it, and then make that thread a sticky? It would reduce the amount of repeat threads that just ask the same thing over and over.

Re: Looking for a good lip-sync program

Ya istopmotion express is pretty good or so I hear it does it by itself to match the voices!

I do not know of a tutorial, unfortunately mini/sad . You could send him a PM with a question regarding the subject, perhaps.

Re: Looking for a good lip-sync program

I will soon, though I don't need the movement quite yet.
I was just looking at my options, and luckily, I only need it for less than half of my upcoming video!
So time isn't that much of a problem.
(It's not for Batman: The Timeless Knight, it's going to be on a short music video that I'm doing.)
