Topic: Comedy for a Friend

Ratboy here, and I would like to share with you my new project called 'What do you think of Porsche Boxters', codenamed 'PORSCHE'. A short, (7 - 10 minute) comedy film dedicated to a close friend of mine. Its about a guy, called Jeff, who goes on a blind date with a girl called Kathrine. This Kathrine character takes the micky out of my friend, but some of the jokes between the two characters are great laughs that we've both had. Some of the jokes are just to wind my friend up.

Its kinda a secret to all my family and friends, but you guys are from across the world so I don't think you'll ever meet them mini/lol

I plan to film it all at 24fps.

I've finished the script. Its about 14 pages long. I wrote it with Celtx, a great free program which I'm sure some of you have heard of. Get it here now! and use it in your next film. Its really good. And you can also get an app for your iphone/ipod/ipad to use it as well. Brilliant. Anyway, heres the script - RatboyProductions.com.

Like I said before, some of the jokes you won't understand at all. Like the mention of the carrot and the iphone. Its something that only me and my friend will understand.

I hope you enjoy the script. Tell me what you think. Give me some feedback and I'll keep you posted!

Heheh, seems funny.

As you said, I didn't get a few of the jokes, but ah well.

This Kathy person sounds very similar to someone I know..

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Sounds good, as said before though, I didn't understand some of the jokes. Also, how would you animate them lifting their eyebrows and such?

After Effects for their faces. I need to work on that because I've only done mouths.

And the jokes I don't think anyone would understand mini/tongue

Spotted a spelling mistake in the script...

"KATHRINE

Yes of cause."
"KATHRINE

Yes of course."

Page 7.:
"OVER THE CAUSE OF FOLLOWING LINES,"
"OVER THE COURSE OF FOLLOWING LINES,"

Page 12.:

Re: Comedy for a Friend

UPDATE! Its nearly been a year and now I've got a casting call out. I've put it on a Voice Acting Club site and here.

Go check it out.

So, what's been going on since I lasted posted? I've been working on other films and this one has been at the back of my mind since. But in the last few months I've started to do some planning. I'm working on storyboards for the more complicated scenes. I've also just spent a load of money on some new lego sets, including a Porsche that I designed.

Pictures maybe soon.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Here are some tests for the storyboards I was going to do. I made them with Illustrator and they turned out ok but they were very tedious.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7003/6420732063_f6e8e653e5_b.jpg

I liked them, and they could worked but I resorted to just simply taking simple screen shots of the actual Lego Mini-figures in the different positions and angles that I would think I need.

I then made a rough edit with me voicing all the characters and continued taking pictures of other shots that came to mind, added them in and I've built a nice representation of what the final film might look like.

So that's my process for storyboarding.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Very nice camera quality. The storyboards are also very well done (I can imagine how long that must have taken you).

Glad to see you are still making this, I thought you weren't going to finish it.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Last week I designed and ordered a lego representation of a Porsche.

Should be coming soon. Its a major prop in the film if you didn't guess mini/lol

Re: Comedy for a Friend

I spent nearly £100 on new Lego models for this film - here's most of them:

Don't look much, but they will really help fill the background traffic during the first scene on the bus and the cafe, looking out the window.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

I'm sorry to say, but your Porshe looks more like a communist-era Skoda.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Haha but it still kinda looks like a Porsche. It sort of got some of the key features of 911, especially at the rear with the brake lights. Its the best that I could do. Its a bit late now though mini/confused

In other news, I think I've completed the story board for the main and most complicated scene in the film. Once I've cast the actors for the characters I'll sent it to them to help them with their lines. All very exciting! Deadline for auditions is tomorrow evening.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

I was more or less referring to the windshields and roof line, which all you would have to do is remove. Not a hard fix.

It doesn't help that LEGOs in general are boxy.

Re: Comedy for a Friend

Hmm, I don't know. I'll give it a go, but surely it would look odd without windshields? Be more like a go cart mini/lol

Re: Comedy for a Friend

All the auditions are now in. I'm really having difficulty deciding the right actors. Some are very good but have slightly poor audio quality, like a slight background noise. I'm deciding whether to take the risk or not mini/confused

I might ask if they wish to accept the part on the condition of whether or not they good provide better audio quality.

you should add the ambient sound of a cafe anyway so it might mask it for you...
