The lens, extension tube, adapter ring and macro filters weren't part of the prizes however. I won this stuff (in the 2nd place row).
So yesterday, I asked my High School's A/V Club director if he had a camera I could borrow for the Live Action film that I'm doing, HE SAID THAT HE WILL LOAN ME THIS CAMERA! I can't wait to use it!

I'm looking into DSLR cameras for live action and some photography and I'm fairly sure I've settled on the Canon T2i.
However, I'm new to this whole thing and lenses have me a little confused. I've heard that I'm going to want to use a different lens than the 18-55 mm lens that it comes with on Amazon for live action. Is the film quality still going to be satisfactory with that lens, or do I absolutely need a better lens? I have no problem with eventually buying a new lens, but my funds will be low after I buy the camera and I don't want it to be useless for live action while I save up money.

Quite recently I got the 550d/T2i and I find the lens which it comes with to be satisfactory. It's not amazing, if you want close ups or wide shots you may want something a little better, but it will do the basic job I think. If I were you I would hunt around in charity shops and stuff like that. I bought an old sigma lens which fits my canon, for £5 (its worth about 10) and I also got 2 x 80mm-200mm telephoto lenses, each for £5 (they're worth about £70 on ebay, hence why I got 2!). A lot of slightly older lenses still fit, and trusting the previous owners looked after them (unfortunately unlike my sigma, gonna need to do a bit of cleaning with that!) they work absolutely perfectly. I was taking some pictures with my telephoto today at a zoo, they look brilliant!
And I don't think you'll regret buying the camera, its great. I got mine here, and so far I haven't had any problems. Its a lot cheaper that shops, and they sell it with different lenses, memory cards, etc.
Now I have a question. I want to get a 50mm lens, but I don't know whether to go with a Canon lens or a Nikkor lens. If I got a Nikkor lens I'd have to pay extra for a lens adaptor, and it would also be a bit inconvenient to have to fiddle around with adaptors every time I want to use my canon lenses. Would a Canon lens give similar results, or is the Nikkor one better and worth the extra money and hassle to use?

I use my mom's tamron macro lense to get a real good focus and close up detail with her canon eos 60D! For live action I use just the lense that came with the camera.

I ended up going with the lens it came with and a 50mm f/1.8 Canon lens (the 50mm primarily for film, default lens primarily for photography). I'll have to look into getting older lenses when it comes time to expand my range of lenses. I'd heard about doing that before, but I admit I hadn't given it much thought. And I'm glad to hear you like the camera, I'm really looking forward to getting mine!

As I mentioned above, I went with the Canon 50mm lens. I watched a lot of sample movies on Youtube that were filmed with it I think they look pretty great. Granted, I didn't do much comparing, but I guess the Canon lens looked good enough for me that I didn't have to.

Try using Firewire
How do you connect your camera to the computer? I've been trying to connect my 500D with a Mini-USB to USB cable but the animation program isn't recognizing the camera.
This would be the best way to hook your canon to pc and start taking frames.

DragonFrame is pretty expensive and I think that fine capture programs are free too. I mean that I won't never buy DragonFrame without lottery win (jackpot, 7 right). Or something that I'll get some 100 000 euros.

Of course my advise is for those who are more enthusiastic and willing to spend some money for their hobby. But then again if you're only able to spend +- $500 on a camera and thinking you'll be doing great animations without proper software that cost's some bucks you're just wasting your money on that cam. Instead of that better get a Q9000 which shipps will the capture software.
