Topic: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

Hello everyone,
This thread is an idea of mine for everyone to post his or her musical compositions. Every so often I find a new composer making a thread in the audio section asking for feedback and criticism on their scores. Usually, these threads do not get a attention and this is mainly from newer threads for voice acting pushing it down. With this thread, composers have the option to post their scores and songs here. This will:

  • have their music get more attention. This is because all composers and people that like music will know that music resides here, and not in an unknown thread.

  • reduce the amount of threads that barely receive attention

I bet 95% of everyone looking at this thread will think, "We already have the Sound Emporium, BiM Sound Library, and Sound Requests threads. Why do we need this one?"

Here is my reply to that statement:
The Sound Emporium is a thread which constantly updates with sites that have great royalty free music. The BiM Sound Library is a thread that relies on users submitting their own sound effects for use in films. The Sound Request thread is mainly the same as the Sound Library, just filled with requests. All of those three threads are devoted to providing members free sounds and scores to use in their films.

The difference?
This thread is not providing royalty free music, but is providing feedback for composers that wish to achieve higher and excel.

What is acceptable in this thread?
Scores and Songs of your own creation are acceptable, whether it was digitally created on a computer, or recorded from an actual instrument. It can be as long or as short as you wish. It can be you or a band you're in. It can be finished products, Wips, or even tests. No matter which it is, all music has dynamics, melody, harmony, rhythm etc. My only major rule which I ask of you is to not post pieces you do not own. That includes instruments taken out of a certain song(in digital composition) or playing a song which exists. It must be original and all yours.

If you know music, then please provide feedback to those that are of lower, equal, or higher standards than you.

If you wish to learn how to make music, it's easy. I highly suggest LMMS for simple electronic styled music. Mixcraft 5 is also a great free program, and if you don't know much about it, I have created a tutorial on it: http://www.bricksinmotion.com/resources/view/140/

The second purpose of this thread is to ask for and answer questions. Music making can be hard at times, especially when deciding what tune is right. Feel free to post multiple, yet slightly different samples for critique on which sounds good. If you are having trouble with a music composition software, feel free to ask questions about it here (instead of making a pointless thread about it). I pretty sure someone has used it at one time or another.

Overall, this thread is exactly what the title says. It's about music compositions, with feedback and help. This is not the place to ask for compositions for your films, but it is the place to ask for thoughts on your music.

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

I just downloaded Mixcarft 5 but its a trial that only lasts 15 days. Is it possible restart the trial?

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

Nope. Of course, if you like the program, you could always buy it.

Song 1
made in LMMS
Song 2
Made in Mixcraft 5. Please note that I have made many changes and improvements to this song but was not able to get Audacity to record it right so you're stuck listening to the old version. Also I apologize for the bad recording quality

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

Can you post a song if it's based on another composer's work (as if it gives a musical quotation of the melody or has the same chord progression or something?)

Minor Bump!
Alright. I've had some practice with lmms, and this is my outcome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCxct6tbc10

I use 2 synths, and different drum instruments. This is really basic. Also, sorry for the beginning being quite repetitive and such. That's one of the elements I need to work on and get better at. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

I rather liked it.

Speaking of the likes of which, for my next film me and my friend were thinking of scoring it with dubstep music. Does anybody know how to go about creating this?

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

Try out audiotool.com topit, its a free program online that allows you to make some sick techno stuff. But trust me, i've tried making some dub tunes myself and it is REALLY difficult to get anything that sounds true.

Re: Musical Compositions | Feedback and Help

Dude. Thank you infinitely for showing me that website. That will be very helpful indeed mini/cat
Although at heart I am a classical music geek so be expecting some of that from me sometime too.
