Topic: Lego Episode Series

I started making a Lego episode series called The Adventure of Larry and Bob recently. I know what I want for the main theme of the first episode's story in which they discovery a metal detector and after trying it out Larry ends up in a hole full of treasure. I don't know how the story should continue after that or how it should end. Where the treasure came from is also a problem. Bob doesn't fall in the hole, I have that down at least. Anyone have ideas.

Re: Lego Episode Series

Huh boy. Another "dynamic duo" series with bland-named characters. It doesn't sound like you gave them personalites, either.

The first thing you have to do to make a series is create the main characters. I see you gave them (average) names already. You have to give them personalities. What adjectives would describe your character? This is important because you need to know how a character would react in a given situation. Next, you need suppourting characters. They're the people that the main characters interact with in the story. When a supporting character appears, he should be there for a reason, something that relates to the story. Using your idea as an example, Larry and Bob could run into a neighbor or a crook who wants the treasure. They could also meet a museum curator who wants the treasure in an exhibit. Suppourting characters are the main thing that moves a series away from mediocrity, all the typical dynamic duos have just the two main characters.

Next, you need to come up with a story idea. You've done that. Now, you need to go into detail about the plot. I'll help you with that part. Just one thing about the exposition: I think the treasure should be in a chest, like a pirate treasure. Well, after Larry finds the treasure, he's going to think he's rich, going out and buying things, dragging the chest with him. Then, people start to take interest in it; buisnesses, a greedy neighbor, a museum (because it's a pirate's treasure), crooks, just to name a few. After a while, people start to chase after Larry and his treasure. Larry ends up going to a appraiser and finds out the treasure is almost worthless.

Thaaank you for explaining most of my problems with dynamic duo series.

But one thing i'd like to change is the ending, I mean it doesn't really have to be a comedy.
Everyone thinks that just because it's a dynamic duo it is a comedy.
But never the less - brilliant post

Re: Lego Episode Series

It's definitly not a cartoon style comedy. It will be a little comical but much more serius than a cartoon. And the charecters do have personalities Bob very adventurous, loves excitment, and some times gets himself into tobble because of it, while Larry on the other hand is a little more catious and less rash. He still some how gets in the middle of Bobs messes. I just named them that because I couldn't think of good names.

Re: Lego Episode Series

Well, then maybe you should have Bob find the treasure instead. He seems more like the character who would react like in my story suggestion. My suggestion is comical because I like comedy (and cartoons).

Those two seem to have the typical dynamic duo personalities: one crazy/dumb guy and one sane/smart guy. I know it's a standard comedic formula, but it's really overused. How to solve this is to add more characters. Even just a pet living with them would work.

With naming, try to go for more uncommon/made-up names and funny nicknames. With the nicknames, they should reflect a character's personality or appearance. In my series, Bricks, the two of my four main characters that have nicknames are Score and Klutz. Score likes soccer and Klutz is klutzy. The other two of my main characters are Jed and Furst. Jed is an uncommon name (or is it a made-up name?) and Furst is a made-up name.

Re: Lego Episode Series

Thanks for you advice. mini/yes  I must not have exlened their personalities as well as I ment to however, because Bob or what every I'll call him dosen't exectly act stupid but is all ways looking for something fun to do. I was thinking of Bob hoping that their going to be rich with the treasure but it turns out they have to hand it over to a museum which was one of your ideas but I just can't piece it together. mini/confused mini/eek

Re: Lego Episode Series

I wasn't implying that Bob was stupid. I was just saying that's how typical dynamic duo characters are. Bob seems more like the crazy type.

I could write a script for you if you can't think of how to put the story together. You can just tell me what you want and I'll assemble it for you.

Re: Lego Episode Series

Sorry if I seemed rude I just thought you assumed that from what I said. OK, It start by Larry cleaning his attic which is a horrible mess when suddenly he hears the door bell. He opens the front door and it's Bob who askes if he wants to play soccer but he says he can't. They both go up to his attic and Larry ends up finding a metal detector he had no knowledge of. Bob convinces him to try it out and they go to the beach. After no luck they try a cliff like place. Again finding nothing Bob decides to go. Larry tries one last time gets a strong signal starts digging and gets swallowed up in a big hole. Bob comes back because he forgot some thing and finds Larry gone. Bob gets done in the hole and they find a huge treasure. That all I thought of so far.

So... Is that a yes or a no to the scriptwriting offer?

Re: Lego Episode Series

I guess so. If I do go with your script what would you like me to do to give you credit.

Re: Lego Episode Series

Put me in the credits of your film, what else?

We'll do this via E-mail and PMs, okay?

You don't have to use the script that I'll write exactly as I write it. You can edit it if you want when you get it.

EDIT: Please write your comment before the quoted text. It's easier to see what you're responding to before seeing your response.

I know that, putting you in the credits, but I mean just your username?

Re: Lego Episode Series

You can use my username or my real name, it doesn't matter. Or both. It's your choice.
