Topic: What are your thoughts on animation

Hello everyone,

I'm doing a little essay on animation, and I wanted to get some quotes from fellow animators. What are you thoughts? Here are some questions you can respond to:

1. What is animation?
2. Why is animation special?
3. Do you think animation is only good for comedy/non-serious concepts?
4. Why do you chose to animate
5. What are some of your favorite examples of animation?
6. Any other thoughts about animation

Anything you have to say would be a big help. My only request is that you include your name, or give me some way to credit you in my report. Thank you so much for your time.

Re: What are your thoughts on animation

1. Animation is making stuff move by playing a lot of slightly different pictures really fast.

2. It is moving, an that makes it different from comics.

3. No, it can be used for documentary too.

4. Because it's fun, and I like to create stuff.

5. Wallace & Gromit, and the old Disney cartoons.

Re: What are your thoughts on animation

Funny, last year I did an essay on animation. I'd be glad to help you out:
1. Animation is the illusion of movement, a product of multiple pictures played at a rapid speed
2. Animation is special because the artist has total control over the subject and the area around it.
3. No. Animation is a medium of film, and can be used in anyway that the director wants. It can tell a funny kids film, or            a dark, R-rated script
4. I chose to animate because it's interesting, I have total control (see number 3), and it's a low budget way to tell a story, which is perfect for a broke teen.
5. Toy Story, Toy Story 3, Bambi, Egyptian Holiday, Death Note (a very good example of animation with a dark story) to name a few.
6. Animation is a very tedious process, and it takes a special person to enjoy participating it.

Btw, you've probably done this, but you might want to specify the 3 main types of animation: Traditional (hand-drawn), CGI, and stop-motion.

Re: What are your thoughts on animation

1. What is animation?
I feel that animation is not only the process of making an inanimate object animate, but making that inanimate object come to life, and yes, there is a difference, like the difference between a robot and a human. In fact, if you look at the dictionary definition for animation, the first example is "the state of being full of life or vigor; liveliness."

2. Why is animation special?
Animation is specially because it allows you to do things live-action can't do, in ways that live-action can't.

3. Do you think animation is only good for comedy/non-serious concepts?
No. In fact, animation addresses serious concepts all the time, although it is usually diluted by comedic content.

4. Why do you chose to animate?
Because I love it. I love seeing something that I brought life to, moving about and being as if it were actually a living thing.

5. What are some of your favorite examples of animation?
The Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, WALL•E, The Toy Story Trilogy, Ratatouille, the works of Hayao Miyazaki, Wallace and Gromit, L'Illusionniste (The Illusionist), The Iron Giant, Metropolis (2001 anime), and quite a few others that I can't remember.

6. Any other thoughts about animation?
It's a rather underestimated form of film making that I don't think most moviegoers take seriously enough. Yet.
