Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Looks very cool, AN. I surely can't wait to see that film!

EDIT: Aha! I've seen RealBrick's awesome car before all of you! And he actually is gonna use it for a film.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Very nice car, Realbrick.
That's the kind of thing I see and just makes me feel a little bad about my building ability. xD

Depth range is determined by aperture. You have à DSLR, so set your aperture to a high value, say 22, instead of a low value like 5.6.

Experiment a little and you'll find out!

Ah!

I tried setting it to a high number, 22, and just about everything was in focus. Problem was I had to set the exposure to 15 seconds... xD And it was still too dark. It'll probably need 20 or 30.

I'm not exactly a big fan of waiting forever to take the picture, but thanks for that. I may take the time to wait a while to take a shot if I feel I need a shot with more focus range. But, for the most part, I'll keep it low, as I like the enhanced depth somewhat.

And it will probably work well in a film where it's not so ridiculously dark.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I'm currently working on an awesome robot. It should be done within the next few days... and it's awesome. Actually, if I had in mind what I wanted it to look like from the beginning, I wouldn't have been able to build it. So I'm glad I freebuilt it.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

with regard to realbircks car, I think its awesome except that the mini fig is in the middle when he could easily sit to one side.

The fireplace (left) will have logs or flame in it, so you wouldn't see the wall behind it.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Looks pretty good, but I would make the shelf denser and make the table monochromatic.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

put another frame infront of the frame used for the fireplace...

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I like the car, RealBrick. My one suggestion would be to make the fenders wider than the rest of the car for increased accuracy. It's possible you're basing it off a different style than some of the pictures I've looked at, but the extruding fenders seem to be a common theme. I understand that the car is fairly wide already, so maybe some basic SNOTwork could help things along.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I couldn't implement the SNOT fenders without the car looking extremely huge(one stud wider was bad enough) I did add a roof earlier though, so it looks much better. (sorry for the crap backdrop)

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I think that the bricks make the doors look too thick.

How about SNOT plates and tiles? Doing it that way, you can have openable doors and possibly some wider fenders.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

The hood and grill combo is absolutely incredible, good job.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Nice! Looks like a Hudson.

What do you think? Its for my FoS entry. Its supposed to be in the background and not too much in focus though.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That doesn't look foresty enough to me.

Here's a method that ANP came up with that works well:

The only modifications to his setup that I would suggest is putting the background back more and have more layers of trees, thick-trunked in the front and skinny-trunked in the back.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Ok, but I dont have any more brown "tree" pieces mini/shifty '
I´ll try to fill it up then.
