Topic: 2001: A Space Oddity - Update Thread

Last year I won my school's film festival with The Rescue.  Now I want to be prepared this time to enter another Brickfilm.  I got the idea for this film when I was making The Rescue 2 which is being put aside for a while.  So the theme of the story as you might of guessed is 2001: A Space Oddessy.  Except I want to reverse it and make it the 2001: A Space Oddessy of LEGO.  So far I have determined 3 sequences that are the main points of the original movie.  1. The opening with the apes
2. Hal 9000
3. The end sequence

Opening scene I want to have them find a large Brick and after touching it one of the primitive mini figures builds a house.  Then we jump to the future and see that there are now more (sets) houses and cars, and special bricks.

Hal 9000 will be a megablock, says it has no problems but it turned out to evil!

The end sequence, I have to have the color sequence that was amazing, then I want to show the mini figure as a baby.

So, with that said, I need some advise about how to fill in the rest.  I don't wan't to do a frame for frame copy of the original, but make LEGO references frequently.

You should include the space walk sequence, and maybe some backstory when Frank and Dave are planning to disconnect HAL.

Just remember it isn't going to be Frank and Dave.  And I forgot about the space walk scene!  Thanks for reminding me!  Also floating foetus will have an appearance.

You might want to change the title from 'A Space Oddity' to something else so that people don't get it mixed up with the David Bowie song. I'm afraid I have no suggestions for you though.

I think I'll stick with the title.  Most people that will be watching this at the theater won't know Bowie.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can make a video of this:

You could probably whip something up in Blender.

I don't know what kind of computer you use, but I can see that being possible in Motion or After Effects, which are both compositing program.

I've never used Blender so I couldn't vouch for that.
