My god, that was awesome...

Star Wars
Haven't finished it, but I've put my cinema surround sound on loud. It's so epic to watch it like that.

He has the exact opposite opinion on Avatar. And because of that, the community doesn't really mention the film at all.

Why does everyone always assume that whenever a person says the 'A' word, I'm going to write a 1000 word rant about how much I despise it? Yeah, I hate it - but I'm not going to flame someone for liking it. I'll respond with a long rant if someone thinks my hatred is irrational, or if they think I dont 'get' it (trust me: I've sat through the whole thing four times - I GET IT. And before anyone responds, I've watched it that many times because I want to like it - but I just cant).

Speaking of over-hyped, disappointing Blockbusters:

Tron: Legacy

I know there are some people on the website who really like this movie, and I can in a way see why. There is a soft place in my heart for the original Tron, although I will be the first to admit that its flawed.

Perhaps the reason why I didn't like this movie was not because its bad - but because the opening 30 mins was really good. It has that stereotyped evil corporation who are furious that their programme is being released for free (even though they could just...you know...TAKE IT BACK DOWN!!), and we never see or hear of them again - but it did a great job of setting up the atmosphere/plot/characters. Then we actually go into the world of Tron and it looks FREAKING AWESOME. Its mysterious and wonderfully atmospheric. We then get pulled into a Disc battle, which is excellently choreographed, followed by a meeting with who we think is the real Flynn but later turns out to be the bad-dialogue Flynn (his lines later on in the movie hurt my soul). The 'young Jeff Bridges' effect works in some scenes, but looks terrible in other scenes.

We then have a really well-done bike-chase sequence (although I prefer the chase from the original), followed by a meeting with the real Flynn - who is basically Jeff Bridges being Jeff Bridges. As soon as the exposition starts though, things go downhill.

The thing that bugged me the most (and I know this sounds really minor and nitpicky) was that the good guys glow bright white, and the bad guys red. Firstly - that's insulting my intelligence. It couldn't have made the characters more two-dimensional and obvious if you stuck labels over them saying GOOD GUY, BAD GUY. Secondly - ITS MAKES THEM SSOOOOOO EASY TO SPOT!!! In the original Tron, Flynn is able to disguise himself as a red guy. WHY CANT THEY DO THAT HERE!?! Do they not know anything about camouflage? Stealth!? Their supposed to be a resistance!!!

My favourite stupid part of the movie was when they boarded the aircraft - it turns white; meaning they get spotted INSTANTLY!!! Its like if in the Bourne movies Jason had a neon-pink glow around both him and anything he touches!!

Oh, and that aircraft battle was the biggest Star Wars rip-off since Turkish Star Wars! I was actually humming the music to that scene and yelled "I got him!!" "Great kid! Don't get cocky..." right on cue. (And its not because I'm a Star Wars freak - even though I am - anyone could have spotted the rip-off!!)

Also, the scene in the bar was horrible. I was pleading for that albino guy to die as soon as he opened his mouth - the DJ's playing music during the fight sequence made the whole thing absolutely intolerable. It turned a battle between good and evil into the bar-brawl. We think a character who we've know for about two seconds may be dead - only for her to be revived due to Jeff Bridges pulling out holographic DNA (I suppose it makes sense, but that doesn't stop it from being stupid).

I would complain about the ending being nonsensical, but the ending to the original Tron didn't make much sense either...

I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but I'm still really disappointed. The music and visual style is absolutely outstanding, but its just a dumb Sci-Fi. Its better than Avatar though. The visuals are much more interesting, and the movie isnt nearly as pretentious...

Psycho
Still awesome, that bit near the stairs scares me every time, too. Plus, Andrew Garfield totally looks like Anthony Perkins.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Descent Part 2
Terrible. Barely anything made sense, and I hate these movies with utterly silent dialogue and then whenever something happens it becomes unbearably loud. It doesn't scare me, it destroys my ears and annoys me throughout. And did they really have to bring back the whiny main character?

O Brother Where Arth Thou?

Still an awesome Coen bros film.

It makes even less sense considering its a sequel to the US ending. Also, I love how the most logical option is to send the woman who was driven insane by the first film and remembers absolutely nothing from it straight back down!! Its clearly an attempt to directly appeal to the US market (since the original did well over there), and it fails very badly - especially considering it didn't get a theatrical release over there...

Your complaint about the sound mix reminds me of The Shining. I couldn't get scared by it because an obnoxiously high pitched sound would murder my eardrums every single time it tried to be suspenseful. I've heard the European cut isnt as good as the US version though...

I'm pretty sure we knew about Quorra for more than "two seconds."

So why point it out? He was obviously exaggerating.

Pretty good, but a little predictable.

Tacky. I wanted to walk out of there but our row was crowded. They ruined 90% of the jokes in it.

I really don't understand a lot of the stars ( _ out of 5) people give films here, especially when they bash it and then give it a near perfect rating. If it's average, it's usually 3 or 3.5 / 5.

Rise of The Planet of The Apes
Much better than I expected. The CG was pretty good and that guy who worked at the Animal Control place is a real prick. mini/XD Also, did anyone else see the TV and newspapers talking about going to Mars? mini/eh

Agreed.

Yes, seeing it's a prequel, those were the characters of the original being set up.

Aliens
It has its flaws but it's still an awesome scifi, and one of the best sequels ever made. But, ugh, if I have to hear Newt scream one more time I might murder myself. I mean, I get why they added her,

Spoiler (click to read)

seeing Ripley lost her daughter during her time of hybernation and all

, but she was still bothersome.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1965)

This movie was definitely more haunting than What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? The pacing was a tad slow, but once Charlotte's cousin arrived at the home, the suspense started building, and the twist ending definitely was shocking. I'd give this film a 4.5/5. An excellent suspense film, definitely check it out.

Picnic At Hanging Rock (1975)

This film was wonderful. It had an extremely haunting and eerie feel to it, despite most of the scenes taking place in broad daylight. I liked the ending, it's best the mystery is never solved, it helps the film remain creepy. Horror fans should watch this. This has no murder, no blood, no gore, at all, whatsoever, yet it still scares you and makes you more and more interested in what happened to the girls. This film is a solid 5/5.
