Topic: Lightworks Help!

Hello,

I downloaded Lightworks, and I can't seem to import avi. wmv. or mov. into it because it comes up with a message saying
'Codec Unsupported'. Also I did download the Codec Supporter thingy to go with it.

Help?

Re: Lightworks Help!

You need the Matrox codec.
There's a download link on the website.

Re: Lightworks Help!

Are the video files you're trying to import compressed? I tried importing a compressed file and got the same message. I was able to import an uncompressed file.

Hmmm, I'm just asking here, but is Lightworks really that good? I mean I'm just asking here.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Lightworks Help!

I tried it, but reverted to Premiere.
I like Adobe.

It's good for general editing, like putting in sounds, getting your clips on order, and adding titles and trasitions. from what I heard, it it's that good with adding effects. You'll need another editor to do that. I use it because I'm not going to do effects, I just want something basic. I imagine the titles and trasitions would be better than Windows Movie Maker. It's what you should get if you want a free basic editor that's better than WMM.

Premiere Pro is great. I use it.

Re: Lightworks Help!

hey sorry to bump this but i didn't  want to make a new thread on the same thing. so basically i can get it in but it won't play it or anything it's just a black screen yet i can hear the audio i don't get any error messages. I've tried compressing it,uncompressing it,avi,mov,mp4,and wmv. please help

Re: Lightworks Help!

If it's like any of the editors I've used, you need to render first in order to get video playback.

Re: Lightworks Help!

i couldn't find a way to render it. I even tried googling it and the only thing i got was how to export the clip which i know how to do.

Re: Lightworks Help!

Did you download the user guides?  They really help.

Was importing all you did?  Did you bring up a timeline and put video and audio in it?  Did you rename the bin you imported the files to so the bin gets saved?

If you didn't do any of that, the basic guide on the website shows how to do those things.

If you did do that, then I don't know what's going on.

Re: Lightworks Help!

I've done all that except renaming it which i just tried and now when i play it back its a white screen.

Re: Lightworks Help!

That's strange...

Maybe the forums on the Lightworks website can help.

Re: Lightworks Help!

ok i think i know what it is when you create a new project and the first thing that comes up i decided to take a look and i realized that it was set to pal now i just to figure out how to change it to ntsc.

Re: Lightworks Help!

I think the only way to change the project settings you set up when you create it is to delete the project and start over.

Re: Lightworks Help!

yeah i did that and changing it to NTSC didn't help. I've been looking all over the forums for lightworks and i can't find anything on it I've all ready uninstalled it and reinstalled it. so i don't know what to do know i guess i'll just have to stick to wmm.

Re: Lightworks Help!

I tried Lightworks once... there was a huge learning curve that I couldn't over come mini/tongue
But if you want a free solution to the WMM problem, you could try Blenders Sequence Editor.  It may seem daunting at first but I found it pretty easy to learn after a tutorial or two.  And as far as I can tell, there are unlimited layers to work with: that's a big step over WMM mini/smile

If I'm on the forums, I'm probably waiting for Blender to finish rendering.

Did you download the codecs?  Lightworks can't work right without them.

But whatever you do, don't go back to WMM!

Re: Lightworks Help!

@wingman_mn, that sounds good i'll take a look into it if i can't import into lightworks.
@minifig051, if you mean the matrox codecs then yes.

Re: Lightworks Help!

EDIT: Redundant question.
