Topic: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Firstly I don't know if there is already a forum topic on here, if so could somebody please direct me to it.

Anyway, I just wanted to know what people think about LEGO Star Wars and if they think its an over used theme for Brickfilming?

Not REALLY within our community, but from the unexperienced noobzorz out there, then yes. Lego Star Wars is the most overused genre of brickfilming.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Yes, all the good ones have been made (and even the good ones would be improved if not in the Star Wars universe) and nothing new can be brought to the table, in my opinion. I know people won't stop, but the genre died a long time ago.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Among YouTube brickfilmer noobs, yes. But not so much around here. More experienced brickfilmers think up more original ideas. A few experienced brickfilmers have made some well-done SW brickfilms. I know Smeagol and Fancypants made some.

I remember there was a topic similar to this called "Lego Star Wars Hate?". That thread is buried somewhere in the depths of this forum, don't bump it. You can go find it to see some people's opinions about SW.

EDIT: I can't find that thread anywhere. It could've gotten deleted.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Yeah it's being overused. But so is everything really. It feels like me and a select few are the only people who actually do stuff in the suspense, thriller, mystery, horror genres. Everybody just does comedy or a film about Indiana Jones or something.

I love doing thriller films, they are just so much more fun to watch and make

Acctually it kind of makes sence that comedy is overused.

Most movies that came out in theathers and stuff are comedies, why? Because they are the cheapest and easiest thing to make. Same thing is happening with brickfilms.

I like stuff...

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Is it overused? I suppose so. I don't really pay attention to such films, so it's hard for me to tell.
I disagree with Hazzat's assertion, though. Creating something that falls within such a crowded genre merely forces you to step up the bar in order to distinguish yourself from other brickfilmers.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Yes, it is overused, but if someone would try taking a new-creative outlook to it, creating something new and different in a new genre that's hasn't been done before or hasn't been done much or properly, then you could make something different that would stand completely on it's own and could breath new life into an overused genre.

Now excuse me while I also go and pass this off to Hollywood. mini/tongue

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

In my opinion, yes, it is WAAAY overused.
I myself have not watched a lego star wars film for quite some time because of this.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Not only is it overused in the brickfilming community, George Lucas himself is awfully overusing it to the point of no return. In my opinion, everyone should stop trying to add on to the original trilogy. It was good the way it was, we do not need to know who gets fired in the Death Star or what Darth Vader ate for lunch the other day. The original trilogy was good enough in my opinion and it didn't even need prequels.

But yeah that's just how I feel.

As others said, not here, but on youtube, OH YEAH.  99.9% of all Lego Star Wars on youtube brickfilms are terrible so in my opinion, far overused.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Are the "LEGO" and "brickfilming" bits of the question really necessary?

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Bad LEGO Star Wars is overused, yes. There's barely any good, but it can be done. Still, films are usually more interesting to when they're not based on Star Wars, Indiana Jones or Batman (there are exceptions). But, as said above, on this forum there's barely any Star Wars etc. Here, (IMO) lame comedy is overused.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Like the others said, among Youtube noobs, yes. You still get some here but most of them are quite good and WAY better than the one that Forrest Fire] makes. It really makes me annoyed when I see those SW films where Darth Vader just explodes or something. Sure there are some exceptions like Smeagol, fancypants and some other guys whose names I'm too lazy to remember. It would've been better if Lego SW films were set to a sci-fi and dark tone rather than comedy. I'm not saying that comedy sucks. In fact, almost every serious film has a little pinch of comedy in them.  I would still like to see Star Trek in LEGO, though,  other than Smeagol's film.

If you have to ask, yes.

Re: Is LEGO Star Wars over used within the Brickfilming Community?

Not really. The overused side of the Star Wars I'd have to say is the Clones, every video is a Clone battle. Most Star Wars Brickfilms never set the mood of Star Wars.
