how to do a car driving through a hole filled with water and splash water all over a character walking type of a shot?
Try using brick animation. Take a shot of some LEGO water in a few stages of being splashed and then leave some clear pieces slowly "dripping" off the minifig.
Now this is what I'd like to see animated.
For that, I think transparent bricks would be best. I'd suggest masking, but I'm not really sure how you could do masking with transparent pieces.
Also, you could change the minifigure's hair to make it appear soaked like Onion did in a video.
I imagine that clay would work if you animate it right and keep it smooth.
