Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Thank goodness that film is over. I don't ever want to sit through it again.

Why I disliked this film:

• The characters felt like they were just more plot devices to further along the story to the next "engaging" sequence. I mean, that's kind of what characters are in some cases, but here they felt like objects, not living beings.
• So many of the VFX/SFX were terrible. The most offensive example is Dragon/Eustace, which looked straight out of a cartoon. I think part of it was giving it/him human eyes. Other offenders were the evil green smoke, the righteous blue smoke and various other things. Aslan still looked good, though.
• The camerawork. Alright, most of it was fairly average, but certain shots seemed clumsy, as if there was absolutely no thought put into them. I'd have to watch it again to pick them all out, but as I've already said, I don't ever want to sit through the film again. Another thing... something about the quality of the image made me feel like I was watching a TV show. I dunno if it's a result of better cameras or cheaper cameras (I certainly hope it's the latter), but either way it's extremely distracting.

What I liked about this film:

• Aslan is still a pretty decent piece of CGI work.
• In and of its self, that sea serpent was pretty cool looking.

That's most likely due to it being shot on digital rather than on film. There's a fundamental difference in the way digital video captures movement than film does (I believe it has to do with a digital image being made up of pixels, unlike film), so if you look closely, you can notice a subtle difference between the two formats.

Diabolique (1954)
This movie has so many twists, it was great. This was really suspenseful. Great acting, a classic.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Re-Animator
So good. It has everything a horror buff needs.

Planet of the Apes (2001)
Loved this when I was 10. FAIL

Dead Man
Still love this. I've seen it many times.

It could be your tv. I watched half of Dawn Treader at my parent's house, and had that same result you were talking about, but watched the last half at my house, and it looked better. I think they have a DVD-HD player. Maybe it's that or their cables. I'll have to check it out sometime.

Hobo with a Shotgun

Hilarious and crazy all the way through. Loved it.

Yeah, I felt like I was watching something on the BBC channel. mini/tongue

Thor
Kind of stupid, but it had some redeeming aspects.

Army Of Darkness
Still extremely awesome after watching it 15 times.

Mission Impossible III
Eh. It's probably a good action movie but this just bores me. Feels dull.

Fright Night II
First one was way better, but this was a pretty entertaining sequel. A lot of it didn't make sense, though.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Double post.

The Big Lebowski
This is the greatest thing created by a human being.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

A Turtle's Tale
Such a rubbish film. It felt like you were watching a kids show aimed at the age of 3-5. The rendering on the fish and such irritated me, It looked like shiny plastic. Of course I was comparing it to Finding Nemo. Another thing that annoyed me was that the main turtle's voice remained so high even through puberty.

Batman (1989)
All I can say is that New York City, Cincinnati, and Detroit share many similarities with Gotham City.

I watched it on my MacBook Pro.

Teenagers from Outer Space (1959)

That was amazing. Better than attack of the 50 foot woman I would have to say. I love cheesy sci fi films.

Hah, I have that on DVD.

Sisters

Really good film, loved it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Blues Brothers

Much more hilarious than I expected. If my church had a gospel choir and James Brown as the priest - I would convert to Christianity. Seriously, that place is awesome! I also love how absolutely ridiculous the climax gets. There's not much visual humour in that sequence, but if you just stop and think; its one of the most hilarious things I have seen in a long time.

The funniest part though was seeing some of the locations from The Dark Knight.

Double post. Whatever.

Cry Freedom
Wow, excellent movie. Though it's really shocking what white men can do to black men just because they can.

Mars Attacks!

I love Tim Burton films, and this is no exception. I thought it was hilarious. I love how fast Jack Black died, served him right.
