Topic: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

I've always wondered this, if plastic is made from oil, what will TLG do? Will they go out of business?

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

I'm not sure, it's a horrifying prospect. mini/twitch
My hope is that by then LEGO will have an alternative material. If not, I don't know...
Luckily, by then I'll probably have enough LEGO, if I'm still into them, and I'll just brickfilm using what I have. mini/smile

By the time LEGO goes out of business (which it probably won't because it's so popular), I'll probably have enough Lego. mini/wink
Though it still is horrifiying thinking of that.

If the oil runs out and LEGO have not found an alternative material, LEGO will go out of business, popular or not.

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

I'm sure a substitute synthetic material could be found, perhaps using corn oil.

I know but people are going to continue because of money no matter if it's hurting the environment. Why? Because to many people are too money-greedy. Kinda the same thing with cars. Exhaust hurts the environment but do people try and cut down, nope. We continue on with our non environmentally friendly cars. They'll continue on until a consequence comes or they could be smart and stop when it goes to far, I don't really know. But your right, popular or not, they'll have to stop, if they're smart.

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

I would expect Lego Digital Designer to be endorsed a lot more that usual.

This should answer your Question

I like stuff...

They won't have a choice. No oil means no plastic. So when the petroleum runs out, so does plastic as we know it.
But hopefully, LEGO will switch to some sort of vegetable oil, as Onion and I both mentioned previously.

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

Yeah that would work also

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

But then if you get your Legos wet they start degrading?... mini/confused

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

No, they'd still be plastic, but with a plant-based oil instead of a petroleum-based oil. Their structural integrity would remain the same.

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

I thought it was supposed to be bio-degradable though.
In my opinion, I can't wait for oil to run out. Then there shall be no more pollution and people will be forced to come up with a better solution. And if they do go out of business, they'll have a giant sale and I shall go there and buy all their Legos and then I ill have a huge supply and then I wont need any more Legos cuz I shall OWN THEM ALL MAW HA HA HA HA HA.

Re: What will TLG do when the oil runs out?

When oil runs out i think they'll be far greater problems than not being able to manufacture lego anymore mini/wink

There's a difference between being bio-degradable, and being structurally deficient. Glass is technically speaking bio-degradable, and yet it's a highly resilient building material.
