Topic: What resolution do you film in.?

Afternoon

I'm about to upgrade from the QC9000 and looking to go DSLR along with using StopMotion Pro HD.  Just a quick question though, if you use DSLRs with SMP what resolution do you use..?  Do you go for straight 1280x720 or smaller..?

Thanks

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I use 640x480 or 720x480, but if you have a DSLR, go for 1280x720.

Thank you for replying Briks

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I shoot in 1280x1024, then I put that footage into a 1280x720 composition inside of After Effects.
Oh, I currently use MonkeyJam, but when I did use SMP, I shot in about 640x480.
Back then, I was using a Logitech Quickcam 4000 pro.

We shoot in 1920x1080 using a Logitech C910.

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I shoot in 3000+x2000+(it is 16:9, but I don't remember the exact number) then I downscale each picture to 1920x1080. EDIT: I use a Panasonic Lumix TZ5.

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I use Dragon Stop Motion to capture my frames at 3264 x 2448 (4x3) then I edit the pictures down to 2k 2048x1152 (16x9) or what ever aspect ratio I want. I always use the highest resolution I can and then edit it down to what is needed.

Sorry I've been away for a few days so thank you all for your replies.

Hi VanderFlame, what capture software are you using with your 9000.? I've found that I can't do 1280x720 on my one if I use it with Stopmotion Pro etc.  Are you just capturing the images and compiling later..?

Thanks again

Do you have the Action! or Action! Plus versions of SMP? Those two versions have a maximum resolution of 800x600. If you want a resolution higher than that, get Action! HD.

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I film in 1280x720 with my Logitech C910 HD. Never ever film in 1080p, it just takes up more space and YouTube doesn't produce 1080p very well at all. I capture my images with the Logitech software and put the frames together in MonkeyJam, produces very nice and crisp quality for me. A lot of people have problems with it though, I don't know why. If you are getting a DSLR definitely get a program like Dragon Stop Motion.

I'm currently trialing Action HD.  For some reason the properties will not allow me to film in 1280x720.  Although I can export at that resolution though.

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I shoot in the native 5 MP resolution of my Logitech C910 webcam.

Ah, trial version. You might be able to do 1280x720 when you get the full version. I think I saw it as an option on the capture settings. You should be able to have that resloution with a 9000, right? I'm not sure about all that, I film in 1600x1200 (fullscreen).

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

I use the full version of Stop Motion Pro, and 1280x720 works with my Microsoft Lifecam.
I'm not sure about your webcam.

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

You could be right in that it may be a limitation of the demo software.  I'll more than likely get SMP HD though as I've been otherwise happy with the quality of my testing..

I'm happy for the mods to close this discussion unless anyone else wants to add to it

Thanks again to you all for replying. mini/smile

Re: What resolution do you film in.?

Just thought I'd update quickly.  I emailed the people at StopMotion Pro who confirmed that with the full version of SMP Action HD I would be able to use the wecam at 1280x720.
