Re: Reputation Meter?

Just curious, is this still in the test stage or is it here to stay?

Re: Reputation Meter?

I'm on the fence about it.  It can be silly but now that folks are used to it, it seems to have some advantages.

Re: Reputation Meter?

A kind of farfetched suggestion (but it works fine on another forum I'm on): Can members who acquire a certain rep number (like I dunno, 20 or 30, basically after they've proven themselves) choose not to use this system, which would disable them from taking/giving rep, and members would not be able to down or upvote them.

Re: Reputation Meter?

I have noticed some misuse of it lately, people down voting posts for no apparent reason, causing people to lose Rep. Still not sure if we should keep it or not.

Re: Reputation Meter?

I now officially dislike this system.  I am seeing too many people downvoting posts and upvoting posts that are strictly opinion questions. I dont think this is working very well.

It seems to be so.

After someone made a post saying It's a Wonderful Life was better than Avatar, I put in my opposite opinion, and got -6, and I'm sure more dislikes are on the way. xD

I did expect this, seeing as most people here absolutely hate Avatar, and It's a Wonderful life is a classic which has survived many years.
However, I wanted to state my opinion.

It's not really a reputation meter anymore, but more of a how-often-most-people-agree-with-you-meter.
xD

Re: Reputation Meter?

I reckon they should ditch downvoting posts and only have upvoting.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Well, if someone makes an unhelpful post, they should know about it.

Re: Reputation Meter?

I just ignore it...

I ocassionally up-vote posts that are really helpful, mostly so the poster gets a warm fuzzy feeling of importance.

But I never really touch the downvote button.

Re: Reputation Meter?

I am a member on another forum, and the way they have it set up is that if you give negative Rep, then you MUST leave a comment telling WHY you gave that person negative Rep.

I am afraid though that due to the fact that we have younger members on this site, the Rep meter simply won't work the way it is intended.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Yeah, I'm starting to not like this system either. A lot of people are abusing it, or giving pointless downvotes. Really why do people downvote helpful posts, or posts that don't need to be downvoted or upvoted? Usually if I see a post with a "-1," and the post isn't worthy of a downvote, I'll just even it out with and upvote.

I do this as well sometimes.

Funny how we're talking about posts that have been unnececarily downvoted when that's what happened to your post.

Also funny how we're talking about upvoting posts that have been unnececarily downvoted and I just upvoted your unnececarily downvoted post.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Guys, stop complaining. If you're annoyed by the Rep System, then just ignore it. Don't let it get to you. Just stop complaining.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Why "complaining"? It's called discussing. In my humble opinion it is pretty legit to talk about whether or not you like a certain feature if this determines whether the feature is kept or abandonded.

$0.01

Re: Reputation Meter?

Is there a reason why you put "$0.01" at the end of your post?

And it's complaining. You guys are all whining about the same thing. Just ignore it. The end.

Re: Reputation Meter?

If that's what you call complaining, it seems that you're complaining too. xD

I think Pacific put the $0.01 there to express that that is his thought on the matter. I thought it was creative. mini/tongue

Re: Reputation Meter?

Yep, i'm complaining that you guys keep whining about 'abuse of the feature' when some of the people complaining are the people who do it.

Just get over your issues with eachother and be nice.

Thanks.
