What's the most important thing about a Brickfilm to you?

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

Having a good camera, making sure the animation isn't choppy, have a good plot and story (not as important to me, I normally animate random stuff), and to not BORE THE AUDIENCE. If a film has good quality but it's boring, the audience will just leave of boredom, quality won't be any good then.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

Having a good story. Period.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

I'd say entertaining the audience.
Give them a fun time. Make something that will spark the desired emotional reaction. (such as awe, laughter, sadness, horror, or that feel good feeling)
This happens when all aspects of the film work well together.

I'm sure a lot of people would say a good story, but even the best stories can be executed in an unbearably cheesy manner. It is important, but not the most.

Some might say animation, but even amazing animation isn't that great without a good story.

If you aim to entertain the audience, I believe you will get the best result. mini/smile

That's my opinion anyway.

Well, to me direction and story. Direction is more important, because even if the story is bland or unoriginal, a good direction can make it seem great. And plus, if you have good direction and original story, then the animation can be choppy, the sets plain and not that detailed, cheesy visual effects, but the audience will care about the movie and will not be bored. Also, characterization is important, you have to make the audience feel good with the protagonist (well, unless you don't want it that way), but well, I think good characterization goes with good scripts and direction. That's the "winning combo", IMO: Good Direction + original story = Great movie.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

There are many things that make a brickfilm good. Camera quality and Audio quality are a must. But as others have said, it really comes down to the storyline and writing. I have seen many films that had AMAZING animation, but the story was very weak.

An interesting plot, with a well-written script. This is the core of any film, brick or not. All the technical aspects are there just to strengthen the story itself. One should not focus on the techical aspects alone, but instead listen to what's happening with the characters. If there is a film with a well though-out storyline, but bad animation, I just listen to it while I do something else. That way, I can still enjoy the story. Sure, I enjoy "eye-candy films" once in a while, but they get dull and repetative very quickly.

A good concept and script.

Sums up my thoughts exactly... Direction is everything to a Brickfilm. You movie can have the biggest Brickfilmers voicing in it, it can have all the effects money can buy, it can be up to 30fps... But without good direction behind it, then nothing else matters. The director, the one behind the film, is the most important part of a Brickfilm.

P.S. TO THE NUIMOBILE!!

PLOT PLOT PLOT PLOT PLOT! and for good measure, PLOT!
Get rid of all those dumb ole chiches and make an original brickfilm that you are proud of! Forget the audience, be satisfied with your own work, and make something interesting!

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

Everyone who is saying plot is correct, everyone who is saying "camera quality" or whatever is wrong. Need proof? Go watch Avatar. Yes, the James Cameron one. Done? Now go watch It's A Wonderful Life.

Or, if you want a more "relevant" example, go watch Cars 2 and Toy Story back-to-back. YOU tell me which one is better.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

Personally, I feel that each part is equal. To me, if you have a good original plot/story with no other good elements, then it would turn out horribly, because you would know what was going on, but because of the lack of proper animation and audio, it would be poorly executed. I have to agree with everyone on the VFX stuff, but that certainly does not mean that it has no use. And a film with good execution but poor story is what tweens call "cheesy". When it all comes down to it, I agree with ANP, it's the audience you're targeting (IMO).

Littlebrick, saying someone is wrong about their opinion is wrong. mini/tongue

It's all relative with opinions and such, but you can't be true in saying someone is wrong about what they think.

Also, in my personal opinion, Avatar has a better plot. It's not my absolute most favorite ever, but I found it much better and far less predictable than It's a Wonderful Life.

Anyway, I'd actually like to withdraw my previous statement from the matter, after thinking it over some more.

I believe that the most important thing about a brickfilm is successfully achieving its desired goals.
Of course, mostly that would usually be entertaining the audience, but their may be others as well, such as expanding your skills, or having fun whilst you make it.

Your opinion is wrong.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

I agree with KG on this one.

I don't know what's the most important thing in a brickfilm. Just try and execute it well. Craft an interesting story and find good ways tell that story.

Well - I never thought this day would come, but I am disgusted by your statement.

One important thing:

Good editing.

That's it.

Re: What's the most important thing in a Brickfilm?

A story. I know I've said this before, you can have bad-everything in a film, but if it has a good story that's what really matters. mini/smile
