Topic: Gun Flare help

Ok, so I remade the topic. In Keshen 8's Black Ops I saw that when he had a behind shot of a guy, he managed to make the flare show up at the end of the gun. In other words, it wasn't the top layer, he managed to put it behind the gun tip. What I want to know is how can I make that happen?

Thanks.
Eddie

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Gun Flare help

Make your gun flare on a separate layer, like I do, then erase the part of the flare which should be covered by the gun.

That should do it.

Re: Gun Flare help

That would work, unless you're using video clips (Stock footage) for flashes.
To take care of that, you'll need to go through the grueling process called "Masking".
If you're using After Effects, press the "G" key to select the pen tool. Next, select the muzzle flare layer and draw
a shape around the part of the gun you want to be in front of the flare.
Press "F" to bring up the feathering options and change the feather amount to about 3.
Then click on "Add, and choose "Subtract" from the drop down menu.

If you're using Final Cut or Vegas, the process isn't that different, I'm just not entirely sure how to do it.

Re: Gun Flare help

This is called rotoscoping it can be done very quickly in after effects CS5 due to the roto brush tool but, but if you don't have that you would have to mask it out frame by frame.

I just need three more actors for my new film, check the casting call here.

Re: Gun Flare help

If I think what your writing is correct, freddie w has a tutorial for doing this in after effects. I'll post the link in an hour or so
