Topic: Build-A-Brickbuster

As you may have guessed, I am a bit new to what is and isn't allowed with the LEGO logo, so LEGO Flick Building Contest is now www.buildabrickbuster.com, and essentially up and running, though I expect some modifications as I hear back from LEGO. I am also still waiting on what prizes we'll be offering, etc. You guys are the first I'm approaching as "beta-testers," if you'd like to submit something, and I can make sure everything works.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Ah, gotcha. Betatesting!

I want people to have as much time as possible, so long as I don't get burried.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

I'll probably enter.

Will there be first second and third prizes or just winner takes all?

Also, does our entry have to state somewhere in it that it was an entry to this contest? (I'm not planning on entering an already-released film)

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Is there any particular theme for this contest, or is it just any brickfilm we make can be submitted, regardless of the plotline or the theme?

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Looks  very interesting. I might do something.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

I'm considering entering.... what are categories?

New sig coming soon...

Along with brickfilms...

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

To all questions about the rules, read here.

EDIT: So far, none of the entries I've watched are Lego.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

So, we can choose to upload our entry with our entry form but does that mean we still have to send a DVD as well?

As far as music goes, can we still use incompetech songs as long as we credit him?

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

And what if someone has songs and the creator has made it legal (to all users) to use it as long as you credit them? Would we still have to contact them or just simply credit them?

New sig coming soon...

Along with brickfilms...

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

This sounds brilliant. I'm almost definitely in. As BGanimations said, is there a particular theme? Adventure, action, comedy? And I didn't see any rules about how many you can enter or if you have to have made your work in a certain time. And what about copyrighted characters, like Indiana Jones (not saying I'd use that, but if I did).

But it sounds amazing. It's been my dream to have my film screened somewhere, I'll give this my best shot! I'll hopefully have plenty of time for this, I'm not currently working on any projects at the moment. May be tough to get this and TOY done. But it sounds worth a go!! mini/delirium

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

It sounds good... but what did it mean by anything LEGO? I mean, it isn't just stop motion?

New sig coming soon...

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Anything LEGO. Stop-Motion, CGI, Machinma....

Question: Can we use the music provided by Garageband (Royalty Free) or Incompetech.com?

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Yes, Garage Band music is okay.

Here's the official release from LEGO:
From LEGO Group

Creators can submit original videos until the deadline of August 5, 2011, for a chance to win exclusive prizes sponsored by the LEGO Group, like collectible LEGO sets, premium LEGO Universe memberships and more. Winning submissions will also be screened at the Build-a-Brickbuster Pixelfest in Broomfield, Colorado on August 13-14, 2011, and will be included on the Bill Plympton Presents Tinsel Toys DVD later this year.

Anyone can enter the contest, regardless of event attendance, but Denver locals will definitely want to put Pixelfest on their calendar. The two-day event will feature some of the world's best brick flicks - not only from finalists and winners of the Build-a-Brickbuster contest, but also from talented local animators, machinima club members, students and professors at the Art Institute Denver and ASIFA Colorado, and more. Key members of the award-winning LEGO Universe development team will also be in attendance for questions and discussions.

"Many animators get their start by using LEGO bricks to get their feet wet in the world of stop-motion animation and machinima creations. This promotion is our way of giving the creative communities out there an opportunity to showcase their greatest talents," commented Dylan Krider, Pixelfest Producer. "When players aren't busy battling to save imagination in LEGO Universe, they can bring their wildest creations to life with virtual building and behavior tools that make it simple for anyone to make their own machinima creations."

Looking for a little inspiration? Check out these LEGO Universe machinima videos! www.youtube.com/user/ultrahypnotoad

Start making your LEGO machinima masterpiece now and submit before the early August deadline! There are three easy ways to enter - upload videos to www.buildabrickbuster.com/submit.php , email links to [email protected], or mail submissions to the contest organizers.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

Shame, I won't be doing this now. I couldn't have been working on TOY and this at the same time, I only just made it into TOY. If this happens next year then I'm in.
Or unless we can enter stuff which wasn't made for this. Say it was made for another competition but I edited out the 'made for such and such' bit.
But I don't think that would be fair. I would like to enter 'Marooned', but I probably won't unless I know it isn't cheating.
But the prizes are all my favourite sets!

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

It's really a shame that the details on this didn't get ironed out until so far along the timeline. It doesn't look like this has gotten the attention it deserves.

Re: Build-A-Brickbuster

I agree. You don't have to make the video for this - it can be a past video or video entered elsewhere. I'm just looking for good ones.
