Topic: software choosing

Ok...sadly I won't be able to get After Effects. I have Premiere but I am looking into Sony Vegas 9. Which do you think is better...Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas 9?(or any sony vegas version).

Re: software choosing

Sony Vegas is cheaper and I have heard its like Final Cut for Windows so I would get that. Also, I think that Sony Vegas is easier to use then any Adobe software. (I some how missed that you said you had Premiere Pro. Just stick with that and you will be fine)

Re: software choosing

Lightworks beats both.

Are you serious?

Re: software choosing

What? Lightworks is free, but it doesn't mean it isn't a good program. How would you know what it's like if you never tried it?

I don't think it beats vegas.

Re: software choosing

Could someone tell me the technical differences between them?

Re: software choosing

If you already have Premiere anyway, then why do you ask us whether you should get Premiere or Vegas? You certainly don't need both. Or do you mean you have Premiere Elements?

I'm confused. Why would you have the money to buy Premiere Pro but not After Effects? The two are equally expensive, aren't they?

Re: software choosing

After Effects costs twice as much as Premiere Pro. I already have Premiere Pro. I just would like to know if Sony Vegas is better than Premiere Pro and what differences there are between the two programs.

Re: software choosing

Lightworks is okay. Has a bit of a learning curve though. So you probably need to spend some time reading the documentation and messing about. One of the problems I had was that the layout feels like it's made for either multiple screens or a single huge screen. I have a fairly large screen resolution and still felt like there just wasn't enough space to do anything.

It certainly does, it's professional standard editing software. It edited the Kings Speech which was nominated for best editing in the Oscars.

Read this.

Don't expect to know what you're doing without reading about it first though.

Re: software choosing

So is Lightworks good? Does it have the effects and transitions gallery like Vegas? I have Vegas but if Lightworks is what it looks like it is, I would switch. mini/smile

Re: software choosing

I tried LightWorks, but found it thoroughly confusing.
It does have effects and transitions, but they're sorta hard to find.

Re: software choosing

I use Sony Vegas 9, and it is really good if you can learn how to use it. It took me a while to learn how to use it, but when I did, Sony Vegas 9 did exactly what I needed.

However, I need help on getting an animation program. My old program animated a video when I fillmed it, so I could not edit each frame if I needed to. I have Windows 7, and I am thinking of using one of the two free animating programs that I found at:

http://fancinematoday.com/2009/03/18/4- … ows-linux/

The programs are called Stop Motion Animator and Anasazi.
I would like to use a free program because I don't need anything extremely special, I just need to edit frames and then animate them at 15fps.
Please help me decide what to do.:)

Also, I have a Logitech C910. Does that have an animation program in it?

Re: software choosing

Anymore ideas? Or suggestions?

Re: software choosing

You definitely don't need two editing programs. You should rather buy something like Compositelab Pro (but try it first!) if you can't afford AE, but not a 2nd piece of editing software. Also, if you plan on owning AE later on, keep Premiere because the two will co-operate much better than Vegas and AE.

The money would be better spent in Dragon Stop Motion (the software is just amazing. Frame Averaging up to 60 frames makes my C910 laugh even at low light. It's seriously amazing. You'll have much more fun animating with it (given that your PC's CPU is powerful enough, though.)
