Re: Reputation Meter?
I think it's fair we should see how it goes, not sure my opinions on it but I think a test should be good. I mean if anyone gets below -50 I think we should worry! heh heh...

Strangely, RP Hoogle's rep is -109. I looked at his posts, and every single one of them got minused, including his very first post. Either someone is playing a joke, or is trying to prove a point. Or maybe he minused himself? If that's true, then mods can plus or minus themselves? Or he got someone else to minus him.
EDIT: Sheesh. It's almost like he's automatically getting minused. I have to keep editing this post. If the rep put here doesn't match Hoogle's current rep, then I got tired of editing this post.

I think you should add a little "Out of ___ votes". Like Reputation: -1 (Out of 3 votes)].

I think this is a very good idea.
This Reputation Meter can be unfair sometime, but that'll be useful for the 'Releases' posts. Thanks! ![]()
I have to voice my displeasure for this "rating" system. Here are my thoughts on this:
This new system helps judge posts on how helpful they are, correct? If this is the case, what about the newer members who have less experience? Are their posts any less valid then the "master" brickfilmers? I feel that new members would have to censor what they say to be approved by the Community. Yes this is necessary to prevent spamming but it also stems creativity and diversity brought in by these difference perspectives (and yes, even the less popular). The old saying goes "to each his own"... are we not allowed to state our opinion without ridicule or judgment?
If members have to fear the judgment of the community opinion, that kind of intimidation could hinder the development of creativity and new ideas. We do already have a report button to notify admins of unnecessary or abusive posts... why do we need a ranking system?
This is my 2 cents

EDIT: I'm would like to ask people to please not rank this post. My ideas are no more valid or correct then any other idea posted here. They are just my thoughts and I personally do not need a pat on the back for thinking the "correct way".

I don't know about everyone else but I get a pressurized feeling now whenever I make a post.
I am now telling myself "Will everyone else agree?" "What if I get an extremely low rating?" and things like that (including while I'm weighting ['writing' sorry, auto-correct did that] this post)
Like Wingman_mn wrote, we have a report button, now we are being rated.
I don't like this idea right now at all.
I just don't like the idea of this 'rep meter' and I hope it is soon gone.

You know what the sad thing is?
No one ever uses it.
That's not true, we actually get 1-2 reports per day. Keep up the good work folks.
The report button isn't meant to be a 'more extreme' version of the (-) button. While the ratings may put more pressure on you when you post, is that a bad thing? It shouldn't discourage you from posting, it should just encourage you to post more informatively.
Sometimes peer pressure can be a good thing. Here we are pressuring everybody to make more helpful, well-rounded posts. You don't have to worry about people not agreeing. Everyone has different opinions, and shouldn't minus you just for saying things they don't like. They will minus you if you make impulsive, not well-thought posts.

New users causing a stir with creativity and new ideas sounds a really good problem to have, but I don't think it's one that this site struggles with, generally. The rep thing on posts shouldn't be used as "do I agree with this?" so much as a way of discouraging bad behavior like being mean to others or borderline spammy posts. Also encouraging positive behavior -- thorough reviews, insightful comments, etc.
The rep thing on posts shouldn't be used as "do I agree with this?"
Unfortunately, some people use it like that. They also have been used as a like/dislike thing. Example: I've seen posts plussed for posting films. Obvious misuse right there. I think that Lechnology's suggestion to change the plus-minus buttons to helpful/unhelpful buttons. That should let people know what they're meant to be used as, and stop the misuse of those buttons.
I personally think it's good to plus film.
It's a pretty nice way to easily see how many people liked it.
Also, I think people deserve a good reputation for posting good films. ![]()
I haven't really voiced my opinion yet but, I really enjoy this. It allows me to see how my film has an affect on people and let's me show other brickfilmers that what they said or did was good.
I agree with Ed here. It also gives newer users some insight on who to trust for advice around here. People with a higher reputation will know what they're talking about.
I think that it's a prank that Smeagol played on him.
That really made me laugh.
I just been into a thread and there were multiple good, useful posts that I wanted to give a + rating, however I couldn't due to only being allowed one rating per 3 minutes. I understand why it's there but in think it could be made better. Perhaps there should be a maximum or 5 ratings in 2 minutes, and if you go over that you can't rate for another 5 minutes. Or something along those lines.
