Topic: Connect a video camera to animation software.

Hi all, I have a Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder that takes pictures and video, and it recently occurred to me that I could use it for brickfilming instead of my webcam. My question is, how would I connect it to my computer so software like monkeyjam or helium from would recognize it? I've seen others do this and the only way I could think of was turning it into a webcam, ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX9Nr_gDfr4. I know some of you out there use digital cameras instead of webcams, so my question is - How do you connect them to a computer for live capture? Thanks in advance.

Re: Connect a video camera to animation software.

You use a fire wire that you hook to your camera and hook to your computer. You can buy these off the internet a cheap as $3.50. If your computer doesn't have a port for a firewire, you'll have to buy a card for it also. We got one for around $12. I don't know if you can buy a card for a laptop. Only know that it works with desktops(if you have aplace in the back to put the card).

Why do you want to use the camcorder instead of the webcam? What webcam do you have?

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Yes, I just checked and my desktop does have a fire wire port on the front. In fact, I think I remember having a fire wire cord tucked away somewhere, but If I don't I'll definitely look into buying one. Thanks for the help!
