Well right off the bat I can tell you Dell is not an operating system so that maybe the first problem with your Toshiba. Smart Assness aside Im not quite sure what the problem is. It may just be a glitch though. Try reconnecting to the internet.

/me looks around the forum for where it says we offer tech support...

Really?  Is there no phone number you can call for Toshiba to assist?

Re: Internet Conection Problem

If you hand your laptop over to a computer geek they can fix it in about 20 seconds.  Otherwise I don't think your giving enough info about your laptop.  OS, RAM, do you use a fan, does it have built in WIFI, do you connect to a router, do you have broadband or satellite.  We can help you out if you give us more to think over.  mini/smile

Yeah because over-priced aluminum fixes everything.

Re: Internet Conection Problem

I'm sure everyone who says things like that would understand why people say GET A MAC if they actually tried the OS and see how much better it is. And if you don't want to spend a lot of cash, get Linux instead.

Hey guys lets not turn this into a flame war please!

I tried out Mac's OS extensively over multiple occassions. It did not impress me. [/opinion]
Sorry for the off topicness

Re: Internet Conection Problem

If you're using wireless make sure you install the adapter's driver. If that's not the problem then you probably have to go into the control panel and use some initiative to set up the connection. You may also need to have the router's password at hand if it's password protected (which it should be).
Try resetting the router or something if it's a wired connection.

Wat?
RAM and cooling do not effect the Internet connection.

At least not directly.

Seriously though, why did you post this here? There are other forums around the internet for this kind of stuff, and there are tech support numbers you can call. Why here?

Re: Internet Conection Problem

Are you all so sure?  RAM can effect how fast you get connected again, it does have an effect somewhat.

It's his Grandparents computer not his. I'm sure they don't want to spend 1,000+ on their computer.  They're also not going to use a linux computer. Lots of people do not want to deal with using the Terminal and other faults of linux distros.

Linux isn't a windows replacement.

Re: Internet Conection Problem

This is not a tech support forum, so don't expect tech support. ^^^^^Case in point.

It sounds like a problem with your router to me.
