Topic: Genre poll.

Just curious what people think has been the most over done genre in brick filming?
Thanks to anyone who replies.

Re: Genre poll.

Comedy or Action.
The two stantard genres of brickfilming.

Re: Genre poll.

Most definitely comedy and action.  They are the easiest genres to execute given the fact that it is not  terribly challenging to cause a suspension of disbelief.

Unfunny comedy.

One joke films.
Buddy comedies....i.e. two guys (a couch), then something happens.

Re: Genre poll.

I rarely ever see buddy comedies, so I don't get it when people complain about them.

Back in the day (which I admittingly was not part of) dynamic duo films were the thing.

Oh don't worry. They're still around.

Re: Genre poll.

Horro- oh wait? Overused genre's? Comedy, without a doubt.

Re: Genre poll.

Is star wars a genre?
I'd say comedy and action, and, not as much as the others, sci-fi.

Re: Genre poll.

I wouldn't call comedy an 'overused' genre. It's the most popular, definitely, but that's because LEGO lends itself so well to that genre. There are plenty of underused genres, but I don't think any are overused.

Yes, you're right. I've always thought Lego goes good with comedy. I would perfer comedy in any meduim of film, actually.

It's not comedy that's overused. It's a certain type of comedy that's called one-joke videos.

The most overused genres are the liscensed theme genres.
In order of most to least overused: Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Spider Man.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Genre poll.

Yeah, I've never made a brickfilm that I didn't intend to be comedic, except maybe my 'Bane of the Sith' trailer.  Outsiders find all LEGO movies funny, so I think it's better for a brickfilm to be intentionally funny than unintentionally funny.

That said, I don't enjoy most of the humor in "comedy" films on this site.

It would be fun to see more true genre films.  Westerns, film noir, period drama, etc.

Re: Genre poll.

Personally I love comedy. I'd prefer to watch a well executed comedy then a well executed serious film. This may sound strange, but when it's done well with LEGO comedy can be really very good! JK does this particularly well.

The problem is that it almost never is.

Re: Genre poll.

As most people tend to agree, comedy is the most used. But it does make sense. LEGO does well for comedy, as some have have said. It's not really a bad thing. The bad thing is bad execution, which some people have done. But, on the bright side, at least there are more bad comedies rather than bad serious type stuff. xD Because that is just horrible.

Out of all of my films, I've always had a large element of comedy. But many are still mixed with other genres.
For example: my film "MAILBOX OF DOOM!" was primarily a B-movie style horror monster movie. Which usually is comedy in the first place. xD With a lot of weird funny stuff in it.
