Topic: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

I've heard some negative things about Windows Movie Maker, so I'm looking of a better program to replace it. I don't mean doing effects. I mean basic editing, like adding sound, transitions, openings, closings, titles, and credits. I would want a program that can control the timing of the trasitions, openings, ect. Like if I want to end with an iris-out, but I don't want it to be too fast and I want it to close in on the charater's face. Or if I want a title to be laid onto the animation, or put my own background behind it. And I would perfer to have a timeline for the audio, that's a feature of Movie Maker I liked. Preferably free, but I would be willing to pay for something good. Any programs like that?

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

Anything from Sony Vegas to an old cheap version of Adobe Premiere Pro will work great. I haven't heard a lot about ''lightworks'' but you can check that out too...it's free.

Okay, so I'll see how Lightworks works out. Thanks!

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

Lightworks. You could also try "Axagon Composer", I think it is?

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

Axogon Composer, actually. But as the name might imply, it's a compositing program, not a video editing program.

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

If you want something free, your best bet is to use different programs for compositing, compessing, editing and special effects. You don't need much more than that.
But if you have the money, get Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum.

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 is only $45 for the downloadable version.

It's far better to just spend money for a cheap editing software like this.  Good free editing softwares are scarce and sometimes, it's just better to go for something like Sony Vegas than try to use WMM or any other free program.

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

If you're willing to partition part of your hard drive and install a Linux distro (Fedora or Ubuntu), Cinelerra is highly recommended, powerful, and free.

Why pay money for an inferior product?

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

I installed Lightworks. Now, to learn how to use it...

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

Bump.

Can Lightworks overlay pictures into a video? Like NXT's matte painting.

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

I don't know. I haven't started using it yet. This isn't the place to ask that. Ask it in that Matte Painting thread (or somewhere else, just not here).

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

I use Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 and it works wonderfully for me! I got it for $90 but I think they are having a 50% off sale! http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite … bview=tab0.
They don't make it anymore, but they have Pro X4!

Re: Windows Movie Maker Replacement

I've found a replacement editor already, lego838. You should read what's already been posted before you post.
