What are Mac advantages over Windows?
Mac is simple and easy to use, not much can go wrong. In Windows, more stuff can go wrong, but the OS makes up for this with much more options and possibilities. That's how I'd describe it in a nutshell. A Windows PC is more versatile (unless you are running boot camp 
).
Let's face it.. Mac And Windows has their advantages/downsides.
But Ubuntu hasn't (except that not many programs can be installed).

Everything has a disadvantage. Macs are expensive and I hear their programs are too. They can also be quite confusing for Windows users to switch over. (Yes I don't find them 'simple to use'. To each his own eh?)
Macs look pretty and are nice if you don't mind paying through the nose.
Windows is the most common Operating System in the world and therefore has more viruses written for it.
But it's easy to get pre-built ones cheaply, and if you want can make your own computer (This applies to ubuntu and the entire GNU/Linux operating systems). Being the most common OS it has a majority stake in programs.
Ubuntu often requires use of the Terminal. (And it's mean't to be the most user friendly GNU/linux distributation).
And he's talking about a laptop here, 11.04 can keep your fans all constantly on a laptop. (I have it installed on my laptop and it does this)

damn it please stay on topic until this guy buys the laptop. Seriously you people are going to get his topic closed because it is once again a Mac vs PC discussion. Help the Bricks in Motion and stay firmly on topic.
However the PC is a thousand times better. 
I'd say things are chugging along just alright, Binding Bricks. If you think problems are arising, feel free to use the report button and let us go about our job.
I think it's alright to talk about a Windows vs. Mac because we already gave our suggestions on what he asked. 
Alex if I were you I wouldn't get this laptop. It's over priced due to design. You can a friend of yours to build one just like it and possibly better for only 600-700 dollars. Mac's are not easier to use. They split all windows functions in half like the task bar is now a Finderbar and Dock for one example. Mac's are not the best out there... Linux is
Laptops tend to overheat and go into sleep mode, if it isn't absolutely necessary I would say go with a desktop. Otherwise, get a laptop with (like others have said) i5 or higher, (not AMD). It should have a number pad and make sure you have a good place to put it where it can easily get air to the fan.
But like I said, If it isn't absolutely necessary, get a desktop.
