Re: Café Corner

Oh yeah, you're right. Having an odd disease like that is something you'd totally forget. I see where you're coming from now.

Though maybe you're talking about implanting fake memories? Sure, we might have the technology to do that eventually, but this device is nowhere near that.

Rats ≠ Humans.

Re: Café Corner

Just wondering, is there anyone here on Bim who likes Shakespeare?

But if we're operating under that assumption, what's the point of discussing anyway? I mean, it was kind of implied that it could do the same thing when applied to humans. Otherwise, the conversation would have been something along the lines of:

"Hey, this thing is like a memory implant for rats."
"Yeah, but I bet it does nothing for humans."
"OK."

And that doesn't make for a such an interesting chat.

Re: Café Corner

The whole reason they're testing this thing on rats is because rats have a similar internal biology to humans. Rats are similar to humans on the inside, but not exactly alike.

Hey, if this thing works, then we wouldn't need school anymore! Think about it, kids go to school to remember facts, right? The chip could just install all those facts into people's brains!

lol, you'll be hard pressed to find a person that does not like his work.

I respect his works but am not largely into them. Julius Caesar was pretty good though.

Hi! mini/bigsmile

Re: Café Corner

Generally, I'm not much of a fan of his. His stuff, though rather good for the most part, can get a little dull and hard to understand. But I really, really love Twelfth Night. mini/smile It's brilliant. I'm going to be part of a production of it in a few months. I hope I get the part of the clown. He's my favorite character.

Re: Café Corner

I dislike Shakespeare for the same reason Max Butcher dislikes Avatar.

People hype the crap out of it, when it's not THAT good.

I'm not denying his talent, as he clearly has some, it just isn't my cup of tea.

Re: Café Corner

With me, I can't really judge Shakespeare because I don't know that he's saying. I read Romeo and Juliet in school, and that old English is hard to understand. I knew what was going on thanks to summaries before each act (this was in a textbook). But if you translate it into modern English, it's not quite the same.

Re: Café Corner

I haven't read Shakespeare, but speaking of plays Waiting for Godot and Cyrano are my fave plays (meaning someone should make a brickfilm outta them)
Interesting question...
Yeah he is hyped way too much. Arthur C. Clarke is way better.

Re: Café Corner

Reading Shakespeare is much harder than watching it (for me at least). I find is much simpler to understand when I'm seeing a good performance on stage, or in a movie. Reading it just never seems to make any since for some reason. xD

Re: Café Corner

Jeez, what's wrong with Shakespeare? Haters.

Re: Café Corner

With sites like NoFearShakespeare.com, it's a whole lot more enjoyable. Cliff notes help too.

If we had a drinking game called "drink every time topit says he is in quizbowl" we would have died from alcohol posining.
