Re: The Animation Challenge
I think a week is plenty of time to mask the frames for an entry. People just don't like masking, 'cause they're laaaaazy. ![]()

Ill enter!

This is not always the case. Before we got the C910, it was almost imposible to mask/rotoscope because the camera always bumped and there was lightflicker. While lazziness is probably the main reason, it's not the only reason.
Now, let's just continue with the animation challenge.
May I remind you all that

Fanboy is right.
Not wanting to toot my own kazoo here, but smashing a window doesn't take thirty seconds.
Fanboy is still right.
Personally, I think people should, instead of just doing a test like they have been, try and make a film around it. Therefore proving where you'd use it in a film. Then judging would consist of the following -
Animation: ?/10
Creativity: ?/10
Technique: ?/10
Integration: ?/10
Thoughts? yar.
Jacking up a Car requires animators to raise up a car stud by stud. Not difficult. Flying a Plane relied too heavily on masking skills, but it was one of the less outrageous themes lately. Extreme Pain was about the animator's ability to show expression and emotion, which basically means "use the scared face and make the minifig run around and flail his arms a lot". And slipping speaks for itself.
I didn't speak about slipping, in fact. And actually, jacking up a car isn't really what you said. Not stud by stud, not that easy. And I don't see the fact that flying a plane requires masking as something that doesn't deserve to be done. Actually, you could have done that even leaving the frames unmasked: this is an animation challenge after all, judges shouldn't care about post production effects. And about the Extreme pain, you might be right, but I don't have a scared face, so it all shuold rely on the "acting".
edit: I Agree with the post above mine. It would be a good idea using hat judging system, although I'm not sure if it's the most appropriate.

Funny how this all started when I got involved...
Guess everyone hates me.
No sir. The themes before were bad as well, it had nothing to do with you. The slipping theme just got people thinking about the lack of good themes lately. It had nothing to do with you in particular.

Mainly because it no longer takes skill anymore. Kids just whip up half-baked WMV files with no substance. I mean, we agree these aren't supposed to be full-fledged films, but it seems NO ONE takes time with these entries anymore. And that's why I don't really post anymore, because it's been overtaken by brickfilm rugrats.
Logic:
1. Thread has weak entries.
2. Don't enter because entries are weak.
3. ????
4. Profit.Good plan.
Nooooo!!! My ego has been destroyed!
EDIT:
3: Enter
4: Win (hopefully)
5: Give a theme.
6: More half-baked entries.

Maybe you should bake your entries better?
This thread used to be more fun when people took time and actual effort in their entries. Also, the "winner chooses next challenge" isn't working out IMO. This thread used to be a lot more organized when it was Bricklord (and FP) holding the challenges.
But eh, if you guys really want it to be the winner chooses challenge thing, oh well.

You just said yourself that you didn't feel like entering because the entries were half baked. Doesn't it stand to reason that if there were a great entry (like, say... yours), people would have more incentive to make better entries? At the very least you could choose a theme you thought people wouldn't be able to laze their way through.

The length is for the one challenge, the 30 second time limit was not for the slipping challenge. Still, we only have a week, and I have always seen the challenge as a chance to show how good your animation skills are, having the challenge thing and that alone removes the unfair advantages of people who, say, don't have a good set or good editing software.
Of course this is all IMO
Here's my entry!

Nice entry ZP! Really liked yours!
So, to remind everyone, the deadline is 12:00 MST tomorrow. You have just under 24 hours to complete any entries.
