ZachFB, all your entries are almost exactly alike. Please stop making entries!
I agree. While one or two entries are fine, IMO, if you make three or more entries, your basically trying to butter up the judge with multiple entries. It also takes away from the animators who tried hard on just making one entry. And also, as coolasice said, if you're going to create multiple entries, please diversefy them a little.
Slipping has potential to be good, but I feel like most people would just kinda BS it, because although it could be good, it doesn't have to be very hard to animate. Better to pick a theme that requires that the animation be a challenge, IMO.
The fact that we already have so many entries kinda proves this ^. I'm not one to say I told you so, but I told y'll so. If you were to make it a 3 day challenge, it would make more sense. Slipping is obviously an easy thing to animate, nobody needs a week. So far ZachFB Studios has made 5 entries (not to pick on him); there's not much variation in technique, hence his entries looking the same. Hardly a challenge if it takes a short amount of time to animate, and if everyone's style of slipping is the same. [/rant]

I, personally, see nothing wrong with making more than one entry. Even if you make five hundred entries and someone else only makes one, if there's is better, it's better. Quality not quantity. Though quantity may improve quality over time.
This thread blows.
Mainly because it no longer takes skill anymore. Kids just whip up half-baked WMV files with no substance. I mean, we agree these aren't supposed to be full-fledged films, but it seems NO ONE takes time with these entries anymore. And that's why I don't really post anymore, because it's been overtaken by brickfilm rugrats.

I made 7 entries for this but I choose the best one. You shouldn't enter more than 2 entries otherwise it can feel unfair to others, and you might feel hard done by if none of the entries get placed. Either way it hurts you.
I still think fist fight would be good, because by the looks of it in films, fights seem hard to animate. I've only ever seen a few near-perfect fights in brickfilms, things like slipping are quite basic. Nothing wrong with that, but as Lamplight says, it's kinda like 'lets make 10 entries and try and win' kind of thing. There's nothing wrong with making multiple entries, it helps you improve, but it seems that this was basic enough for people to make quite a lot in such a short time. In some ways, I think that the Animation challenges were better when BrickLord chose and judged, a lot more professional and well made entries were made around then. I personally think that things which include a lot of masking and stuff are better, because they are the most challenging. I think that the harder it is to animate, the better suited it is for this, that is the point of a challenge.
But I still don't think slipping was a bad them, perhaps it should be more of a weekend thing as appose to a whole week. ![]()
I think a week is too long if we're supposed to make entries about 0.05 seconds long. If we get a week, it should be for something that will take a while. Not something that you can do in 5 minutes.
Anyways, I'll put my entry on tomorrow.

I agree also. This thread use to be fun, now it's completely at the other end of the scale. When Bricklord controlled this thread, everybody enjoyed entering. So I say bring Bricklord back.

I don't think it's the lack of Bricklord; there were good themes after Bricklord stopped choosing the themes. It's just the lack of good themes recently; no offense to the people who chose these themes, but jacking up a car, flying a plane, extreme pain, slipping??? None of these are very good themes for an animation challenge. What we need are some good theme ideas, not ideas that someone randomly decides to declare as the theme without thinking about how challenging it's going to be, and how much it's going to rely on masking or emotion or expression.
May I remind you all that

Your entry has to consist of a minimum of 30 seconds of stop-motion animation. CGI, Flash, and other media may be used. Entries composed purely of CG are allowed, as long as they are LEGO based.
Well, thirty seconds of slipping? I think that should only apply to the larger and broader challenges such as "A Lightsaber Fight" or "Freerunning".
So I say bring Bricklord back.
Agreed. BRICKLORD! BRICKLORD! BRICKLORD!

Well, thirty seconds of slipping?
Not wanting to toot my own kazoo here, but smashing a window doesn't take thirty seconds.
You added a story behind it, making it 30 seconds. Slipping has even more potential to have a story around it, making it easier to have 30 seconds of animation.
but jacking up a car, flying a plane, extreme pain, slipping??? None of these are very good themes for an animation challenge.
I completely disagree with you. Jacking up a car and Flying a plane are real challenges, hard. Few people entered because it was difficult. And extreme pain isn't something as useless as it seems you might think. I myself wanted to enter the flying a plane, or at least try it, because it would have been really interesting, but unfortunately for me I don't have much time, and when I do have time I don't have motivation, and when I do have motivation, I don't have time...and it goes on. Jacking up a car, also, I found it interesting, but I think that the ones that entered it didn't really understand what they had to do. I think some of these are interesting challenges, but at this stage of the year, few people have time to work on them. In a few weeks, holidays will start.

Jacking up a Car requires animators to raise up a car stud by stud. Not difficult. Flying a Plane relied too heavily on masking skills, but it was one of the less outrageous themes lately. Extreme Pain was about the animator's ability to show expression and emotion, which basically means "use the scared face and make the minifig run around and flail his arms a lot". And slipping speaks for itself.

Logic:
1. Thread has weak entries.
2. Don't enter because entries are weak.
3. ????
4. Profit.
Good plan.
