Topic: Onion's Sound Design Service

About

That's right, as you can probably see from the title I am offering a free sound design service for Brickfilmers. And I don't mean you sending me your film so I can throw in a few sound effects from the web, nope, I will record each sound you want individually myself in professional music studio, using top of the range mics and field mics. I can't promise I'll be able to do it for everyone, however if you have an interesting project I might feel more compelled to do so.

Updates

28th of March 2011 (Monday)
The studio in which I will record in is courtesy of my brother, to whom it belongs. It is currently being built and is expected to be finished by Monday or so of next week. I might even post a photograph or two here as proof when it's done.

I will update this section with more news on the matter, and with various projects and what stages they are at (i.e sound design for _____ is currently 50% done, working on _____ sound effect now).

Q&As

Q: What's the average time taken for you to complete sound design?
A: Depends entirely on the film and what the creator is looking for. More thorough sound work can take up to 5 days tops.

Q: What do you require from the creator before you can record?
A: Usually a vague idea of the main sounds that need recording, a copy of the footage (Edited if possible), and that should be fine.

If you think there's anything else that should be added to the list above please let me know. Also, all I ask in return is if you could give me noticeable credit for the work done. Thank you.

Current Poll

Even though I'm taking requests, I can not yet start recording sounds until at least monday of next week. So in the meantime I'd be very interested to see what you guys think are the most used sounds in a brickfilm (Walking, paper rustles, door opening, etc) so that I may start testing them. Please leave your answers below.

The poll will be changed every time the question is no longer need/valid. Also, if you're good at photoshop or anything I'd love a logo. Many thanks.

Requests

1. Knife slamming into wood (Table, chair, etc) - for 'Brickyman' - Due Saturday April 2nd (DELAYED)
2. Gun sounds (Shooting, loading, etc) - for Buikes - Due Monday April 4th (DELAYED)
3. Full Sound Design (TOY entry) - for BGanimations - Due _______
4. Full Sound Design (TOY entry) - for Binding Bricks - Due _______

Re: Onion's Sound Design Service

Sounds like a good idea to me. I have a suggestion, perhaps you could upload these sounds on to one of those sites where people can download them, so that way if someone just needs one odd sound effect, they can check a list to see if you've already made it, then they can use it and credit you. Uploading them in the sound library as well as on here would be a good idea. But I like the sound of this, there have been loads of sound effects I've wanted but I haven't known exactly what to search for, or nothing comes up.

Ah yes, a valid and good suggestion. I am in the process of designing a specific website for the service and will include a sound library. However at the same time I encourage people to get better sound design on their films, whether or not it's by asking me or not. I believe it's vital for any films big or small to not overlook sound as being of lesser importance in post-production. And that's essentially what I'm hoping to do by offering this service, to help with this very issue and make every film's sounds unique and realistic.

But indeed you are completely correct, and sounds such as walking, doors opening/closing, cup clinks, background noises, etc. will be soon available for free download, so keep checking back.

Gun Sounds? mini/confused

Re: Onion's Sound Design Service

Hello there Onion.  I was wondering if you could do possibly a lot of my sound design for my Tales of Yore entry?  If you can then we can contact by PM's.

EDIT: Can you do my FULL sound design?

Honestly walking would be the best one to do in my opinion.

That has me confused as well, but I may be confused on something entirely different. Unless you have a gun, Onion, the only other way I can actually think of making a sound is just download a sound effect from a website, then claiming it as yours that you 'made' in your studio. mini/confused

EDIT: Woops. I didn't realize that Buikes was actually claiming the he wants that sound. But still, my confusion pops up on how you're going to get the sound.

Re: Onion's Sound Design Service

Hmm... who knows... maybe Onion has a really good voice and can make his own gun sounds mini/tongue

Re: Onion's Sound Design Service

Yeah, this would be great for some sound design for my Tales of Yore Entry.  mini/smile
It would be greatly appreciated if you could please help me with my BiM 2011 - Tales of Yore Entry
File Name - 'Philadelphia' by creating some audio for me.What I need is a light humming sound,
as if it's coming from a computer system and a projector sound (while it's playing). Could you
also, if possible, make the weirdest alien communication sound you can!
There is no rush, but I'd like them before June (I don't thinks that's to big of a request!  )
If this is all possible that would be great. And I can credit you if you want me too.

Absolutely! Tales of Yore entries are fine for me, because it gives me a long enough period of time to record and compose the necessary sounds. And yes, it will be a full sound design!

Yes, I know from my personal experiences that finding a decent walking sound if difficult - consider it done. I'll hopefully be able to give my full attention to recording next week, so anytime from Sunday to Friday it should be available to download.

Well, with sound design usually the sound you hear is never made by the actual object. For instance, the majority of old Cartoon sounds were made with a balloon. I'll find something anyway, not to worry.

Finished recording this one today. I used the sound of a electric dryer, it sounds great, in my opinion. Note to everyone: I'm now doing quick recordings for EASTER entries, and will continue to expect sound design for TOY entries. Gettin' my Mac back tomorrow also, so hopefully I should have the sounds completed quickly upon request.
