However, the price to buy MineCraft is very reasonable. Right now, it's about $21.00 American. You only have to pay that one fee, no monthly payments to keep your account going.
And when the game gets out of beta, you get it for free, if you pay for it now. It's a good buy, I would be willing to pay 50 USD for it.
This is probably a stupid question, but does anyone know how to build shtuff in singleplayer? I've been trying but all I can figure out is how to throw blocks around.

Do you mean crafting or actually placing blocks?
To place blocks, you right-click.
To craft, you press E on your keyboard, take four wooden planks, and place them in the 2x2 grid to the right of your avatar. This will craft a crafting bench. Add the crafting bench to your inventory, and place it by right-clicking. You then right-click on the bench to open the crafting interface. You can google the different combinations.

I found it was a lot more fun to actually find the combinations for myself.
I'm about efficiency. I want to build stuff as fast as possible. I don't like to waste time finding combinations. But, that's just me.

Here's a MineCraft skin I made from scratch.
LampLight and I will probably use it as our skin for the account we're sharing.
I'm going to make a server soon, hopefully.
