I agree. "Potty" humor never appealed to me.
Oh, it wasn't just the potty humor; just about every joke or gag in the film was unfunny. I only smiled at maybe one or two.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
I love seeing how characters and the relationships between them grow during the course of a good series, especially during the climax, when everything is on the line. That is why I love Toy Story 3, Return of the King, and that is also why I think Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is my favorite Harry Potter film.
That's pretty much all I've got to say.
Ocean's Eleven
A wonderful little film with an interesting plot, diverse characters and plenty of action, without overdoing the violence.

I just saw that movie 2 days ago, it was great! We had to watch it in Drama class, and then write an essay about it, since the movie was based on the Oddyssey. Strange, both movies you watched had George Clooney as a main character.
I'm new here, but I will wade into this thread.
I remember when i first saw Pulp Fiction. I was just out of school, in my late teens and i really didn't get it at the time. I have seen it 3 or 4 times since and I think it's got to be in the top 20 films ever made IMHO.
I went to Pirates of the Caribbean 4 the other day. I think that Pirates 2 is the best of the franchise. This latest one is certainly better than Pirates 3. I think it would have been better as a stand alone movie, the story on the whole was good but I think that they could have cast Penelope Cruz' character better. Not a huge fan of her. If they wanted a sassy chick with a sexy accent they should have gone for Selma Hayek.
I still hold my liking of Pirates 2/3 and my love for Pirates 1 as something I will never understand. I imagine myself consulting an Asian Guru and asking how I can delve deep into my conciousness to discover why I like this series so much when I hate stuff like 'Avatar', 'Transformers', '2012' and other big-budgeted action movies.
And its not because I'm a Depp fan - although I love his older stuff (Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, etc...)

8MM
Directed by the man who gave us Hershey Kiss Bat Nips, 8MM was (apparently) pretty roundly denounced at the time (except for Ebert, according to Wikipedia). Maybe people were still pissed over the whole Bat-credit-card thing? I mean, it wasn't a masterpiece or anything - but it was a surprisingly decent movie, although it funked up big-time near the end when
it ended more or less 'happily.'
Joaquin Phoenix was hilarious as prawn industry informant Max California, and there was a scene near the end that I absolutely loved - really suspenseful stuff, with naught
but the sound of a record skipping.
It didn't need big over-dramatic musical cues ala The Shining to hit you over the head with the fact that danger was present; just that simple, repetitive sound driving you crazy.
Wall Street
It was an 80's movie. With Charlie Sheen claiming to be a winner. I sure as hell won't be watching the sequel, but it was kind of nice to finally watch this fully through.
Chocolate
Amazing. They kind of went crazy with the action towards the end, but hey, what action! A++, would watch again.
Easy A
This was pretty good! There were a couple of things I really liked, such as when the 'terminological inexactitude' accelerated with velocity around the school. It gave you a good sense of place, of this high school being like a beehive buzzing over with petty gossip.
Emma Stone was really good. It was the seasoned actors that really sold the movie for me, though. Patricia Clarkson, Malcom McDowell - but especially Stanley Tucci! Even though their parts weren't huge, they did a great job within them.
I also liked all the John Hughes nods, including the bit where
they psyched you out that there was going to be a freeze-frame ending, 80's style.
The dialogue felt pretty natural to me, especially since I also just watched ...

Don't get me wrong, I liked it; but some of the dialogue was a bit too ... 'on the nose.' The snark felt a little calculated at times. Still, even if the screenplay is a bit overrated, Ellen Page was great, and I can't imagine anyone else selling that pipe. Not Michael Cera's best role, but by no means his worst.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
In my opinion, they played up on the comedy WAY too much. In the first three, it was an action movie with a weird pirate main character on some sort of pirate-y drug; in this one, everyone was funny. Although the film deals with the supernatural and isn't supposed to be completely realistic, there were some parts where Jack Sparrow in particular was doing impossible or near-impossible stunts, which didn't make any sense at all. If anyone decides to argue with this, I would be glad to point out these parts, but otherwise, I'll just leave the explanation as it stands now.

Say what you will about 'Batman and Robin', 'Highlander 2', 'Manos: The Hands of Fate', 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus' and anything with the word 'Holocaust' in it - at least SOMETHING WAS HAPPENING!! Things were going on!! Sure, they were abomnible things that made me hop up and down with rage - but at least it had my attention!!
Its NOT arty!! I have seen art-house stuff - and whilst I prefer more grounded films, I feel like I have a decent(ish) understanding of the 'art-house' medium. THIS IS NOT AN ART-HOUSE MOVIE!! You cant just have an entire movie of TWO MEN WALKING THROUGH THE DESERT and call it 'art-house'.
This is the reason why I prefer grounded films - because both the film-makers and the audience are so snobby. There are exceptions, but they are both like "Oh, you really do not get this. Go back to your 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves', your 'Brazil', your 'Star Wars Episode 4', your 'Memento' and your 'Citizen Kane' (which are my top 5 favourite movies of all time in that order - and before you say I like 'Citizen Kane' just because I'm jumping the bandwagon - I have done entire essays meticulously analysing that movie. It really is, in my opinion, as good as everyone says), leave this to the intelligent, high cultured messiahs that we are! We are more high cultured than Queen Elizabeth II on crack". And this is what the film feels like - it feels like its insulting me saying "Oh, you clearly do not get the significance of this one shot of the walking in silence for 9 mins (I am SO not exaggerating - I counted!!)". OK: what does it mean? What is two men walking in the desert exchanging little to no dialogue and with completely blank expressions trying to tell us?
And I cant be the only person who yelled "WWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYY!!?!?" when Gerry suddenly commits murder. Yeah, I just spoiled the only mildly interesting thing that happens - and even then its the most nonchalant and under-played murder I have ever seen on-screen in my life. I'm pretty sure that in real-life murder isn't so anti-climactic. And - WHY DID HE DO IT!! WE KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF HIS MOTIVATION OR FEELINGS BECAUSE THE ENTIRE JOURNEY HAS BEEN IN [COMPLETE SILENCE!!!!
We learn nothing. We lean nothing about the characters, we learn nothing of their journey, we learn nothing of their feelings, we learn jack !@#$. What's funny is that this is based on a true story - yet its so much more exciting to read the Wikipedia article than to actually watch the movie.
This is one of the worst movies of all time. Good night.
