I wasn't disappointed......although that's probably because my expectations are at an all-time low after Series 5 and the clumsy, mean-spirited Christmas Special.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

So....um.......the TARDIS is able to become a living, breathing, human being that is perfectly capable of human bodily functions and its own independent thought.

Where the hell do I begin?

First: ITS. A. SPACESHIP!!! Before, the TARDIS had a heart, but that was a kind of energy which Rose unlocked and used to destroy the Daleks. Its not a person!! What? Is my laptop going to turn into a 90 year old gay lunatic?? I know the TARDIS is already 'alive' (which I always thought was really stupid - but lets just go with it), but its a 'force-like' mystical energy...NOT A HUMAN BEING!!!

Second: When the Doctor absorbed it in Series 1 Episode 13: IT KILLED HIM ALMOST INSTANTLY!!! The Lady is able to survive for an ENTIRE EPISODE!!

Third: If the TARDIS is able to drive itself - then why the flipping !@#$%^ does the Doctor keep going to the wrong locations!! Why in Series 1 did he land 1 year later than he was supposed to!?!? Why in Series 5 did he keep skipping through Amy's time-line!!?! And there are probably more examples! If the TARDIS knows where the Doctor wants to go....WHY DOESN'T IT GO THERE!!! I know the TARDIS said that she (I am so pissed at having to personify the BLOODY TIME MACHINE!!) goes where the Doctor needs to go, and not where he wants to go - but the Doctor NEEDED to get Rose back! He NEEDED to get back to Amy on time! These were dramatically presented as serious problems - not lucky accidents!!

Fouth: If the TARDIS was able to operate the temporary TARDIS (which would take FAR more than A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO ASSEMBLE!! We have spent over FIFTY YEARS establishing that the TARDIS is impossible to understand and even harder to fix!!) then 1) Why was she still able to walk and talk and 2) Why didn't she just go back into the original TARDIS?

Fifth: The TARDIS chose The Doctor? This isn't Harry-smegging-Potter! If the TARDIS is able to make concious contact with the Doctor - then surely they CAN communicate in some way!! If the TARDIS knows so much about the Doctor - then she (AAARRRGGGHHH) has some kind of conciousness that senses the Doctor! And surely the TARDIS is able to help out if the Doctor or his companions are in peril? (Like when Donna and the TARDIS was about to be incinerated in Series 4 Episode 13 for example?)

Sixth: If the TARDIS is able to see into the future...why didn't she just tell him what is about to happen! Why doesn't she just tell him how to solve everything!! And dont you DARE say that "there would have been no tension" because there WAS no tension because I was yelling at the screen "JUST TELL HIM HOW TO SOLVE IT!!!" I hate it when a person has the power to tell the future but just doesn't. Its pretty much the ultimate plot-hole....

Seven: Does the writer just have no idea what 'Doctor Who' is? According to this episode - EVERY single TARDIS is a 'Blue Box'. NO ITS NOT!! The TARDIS takes the form of a 60's Police Box because the Chameleon circuit was broken. In the classic Series, The Master and the Rani also had TARDIS'S, which were able to become anything

Eight: Surely the TARDIS is able to fix itself? If it can operate the level, and its able to operate the controls and take the Doctor where she wants it to go, then surely if it has that much control its also able to fix itself?

Nine: If the planet is a wasteland of TARDIS shells, then what happened to the actual TARDIS? Did they too become humans? Are they flying around somewhere?

Ten: The Doctor calls it 'Sexy'? I...tha.....I.......EEEEWWWW!!!! I know people talk to their cars/computers quite often....but we dont call it 'Sexy'!! We dont associate it as a human object! And clearly the Doctor doesn't know that the TARDIS can her him (HOW CAN SHE HEAR HIM??) since he is so shocked when he finds out! Is the Doctor like one of those really creepy people who try to have sex with their cars??? EEEWWWW!!!

Now THIS Episode WAS a disappointment! The entity which is chasing The Doctor is NEVER explained, we NEVER see it in a physical form, and the emotionless dialogue exchange of "Fear me, I've killed hundreds of time lords" was a trailer quote. The pointless escapade into the old TARDIS was pointless...not to mention it make all the people (including me) who thought David Tennant was going to make an appearance feel cheated. And, just like Episode 2 - we were teased by a sub-plot which was FAR superior to the main plot. The whole sequence through the TARDIS corridors was brilliant. It was incredibly unsettling, and it surprised us - which is the best part of any Doctor Who Episode! Why wasn't the whole episode about this? Why did we need to establish that the TARDIS is AN ANNOYING MIDDLE AGED WOMAN!!!

On the plus side: No 'Dun dun Duuunnn' ending! And the 'Next Time Trailer' actually has DIFFERENT MUSIC!! It was as though they read my previous comments! Thanks guys! Now you just need to improve EVERYTHING ELSE!!!!

WORST DOCTOR WHO EPISODE OF SERIES 6 SO FAR!! I feel cheated!!! Just when I thought Doctor Who was improving...IT STARTED SUCKING AGAIN!!! Its business as usual for 'Doctor Who'.....

This episode was.. Just.. Ugh.

I was embarrased at being a viewer of the show. mini/tongue

Max covered most of the points, but what was the point of the Ood? Did they run out of costumes?

And Time Lord style Frankenstein rip-offs?

¬_¬

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Oh crap, I forgot about the Ood! Yeah....isn't this like the third time an Ood has been possessed? The only monster more threatening than the Ood is the bloody adipose! (Who briefly made me lose all my masculinity and turned me into a crooning little girl) Even the Mutant Robert Palmers are more threatening! ('The Silence' - who apparently get all their Alien costumes from 'Gucci'...)

And the Time Lord Frankensteins. WWWHHHHHHYYYYYYYY!?!?!??! Why did the planet want to keep them alive?!?! He wasn't doing anything to them aside from making them live longer to do....what exactly!?! Why doesn't he create more people out of the spare time lord limbs? Why did they suddenly drop dead? Even the Doctor questions this...AND ITS NEVER ANSWERED!!!

I have not felt this insulted since The Christmas Special. Just as the laws of Space and Time are a complete mess, The Daleks are Power-Rangers, and the Stone Angles suck: I will now never be able to look at the TARDIS in the same way. Oh, no Doctor - the TARDIS is a woman who can control herself and who your sexually attracted to!

I know Moffat didn't write this episode: but he must have approved it. He must have gone: "YES! This is the perfect way to ruin ANOTHER key and beloved part of Doctor Who! GENIUS!!"

I dont know about you....but I wouldn't have approved it. I would have chased that writer out of the building with a flame-thrower!

EDIT: And another thing!

The humour SUCKED. Really? Your doing the "I'm not dead...oh wait: now I am!" joke? Your ripping off 'Shrek 3'! SHREK THREE!! SHREK THREE!! AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

WORST DOCTOR WHO EPISODE OF SERIES 6 SO FAR!! I feel cheated!!! Just when I thought Doctor Who was improving...IT STARTED SUCKING AGAIN!!! Its business as usual for 'Doctor Who'.....

Allrightie where do I start, oh yeah

1. They never said it turned into a human being in this episode, and it's not in the same universe so who the hell knows what could be different.

2. Again, it's not the same universe, things is different, the power is different.

3. Idris said clearly "She didn't take him to where we wanted to go, she took him where she NEEDED to go" so your statement there is incorrect. Like in Series 1, the reason they got there a year later was because of the thing that happened, I can't remember but there was something the Doctor had to handle. It's not like he always goes where he wants to go and always just HAPPENS to land on a place where something alien is happening mini/rolleyes no no no noo she said she takes him where he needs to go.

4. She didn't go back into the original TARDIS cause that one was not working for the power. They got to the tenth doctors TARDIS cause atleast that one worked.

5. Allright here I got nothing to say. 1 point to you Mr. Butcher.

6. You should not spoil the future. It's spoilers.

7. Wait, when did they mention that every TARDIS is a blue box? When you could see all TARDIS parts I couldn't see any blue  boxes parts or something.

8. The TARDIS soul got lost out of the TARDIS so how would it be able to fix itself?

9. What's the "actual" TARDIS?

10. He is not a human and his real love has always been the TARDIS.

How could anyone possibly think that Tennant would make an appearance? That man you saw had the same clothes as Rory and Amy was beside him... IT'S RORY AND IT'S NOT BBC'S FAULT THAT PEOPLE ARE SO IDIOTIC TO THINK THAT TENNANT WOULD COME BACK WHEN HE IS NOT EVEN CASTED!

There mini/smile I'm done

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

I have a hard time believing that Neil Gaiman's take on Doctor Who was all that disastrous.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

whoah, wait so the Tardis is like a sentient being now? I thought the new seasons of Dr. Who were supposed to be really good - but that sounds really dumb.

You could almost say it's retardis, ahaha.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Maybe I'm just a sap, but I really liked that episode.

I thought that the TARDIS being an actual person was cool and the whole Rory dying and being old and decrepit was pretty freaky. And Max, I don't think that the Ood really had mich to do with the episode. It was just like a side thing. So overall, yes it was a little too love oriented but hey, it can't always be River Song and the Doctor blowing up aliens right?

As a last thought, I laughed so hard at the whole bunk bed bit.

Lucas wrote:

It possessed a human and took over its personality - meaning the TARDIS is now in human form. And, having an alternate universe with different physics and technology is a HUGE unprompted assumption. They never establish that technology is different - so I still blame the writing. And if the physics are different then they completely failed to make this known to the audience.

Idris said clearly "She didn't take him to where we wanted to go, she took him where she NEEDED to go" so your statement there is incorrect. Like in Series 1, the reason they got there a year later was because of the thing that happened, I can't remember but there was something the Doctor had to handle. It's not like he always goes where he wants to go and always just HAPPENS to land on a place where something alien is happening no no no noo she said she takes him where he needs to go.

Actually I was right - I wasn't quoting, and I just said "I know the TARDIS said that she goes where the Doctor needs to go, and not where he wants to go". I was right, I just didn't say it how she said it. And the arriving a year later was due to the Doctors incompetency. The fact that the TARDIS happens to go where something is wrong never really bothered me. I like to think of 'Doctor Who' as an abridged version of his life - we only see the exiting stuff, and when he actually goes where he wants to go and there is nothing wrong we dont see it. He's probably already taken Amy to a load of wonderful locations (and I'm not talking about how she got pregnant...if she is and that girl was her daughter.....) In the original Series, if the TARDIS was malfunctioning, the Doctor was just hit it with a hammer (yeah...they really love each-over...)

6. You should not spoil the future. It's spoilers.

I dont care. If you had a person who could tell the future, wouldn't you use him/her to find out what happens in the future? I HATE it when stories do this! (I swear this happens in 'Watchmen' too...)

7. Wait, when did they mention that every TARDIS is a blue box? When you could see all TARDIS parts I couldn't see any blue  boxes parts or something.

They say something like "Out of all the Blue Boxes". Basically, they refer to 'blue box' in plural. The broken TARDIS's are parts of the inside.

8. The TARDIS soul got lost out of the TARDIS so how would it be able to fix itself?

I meant all those 50 years where the TARDIS has been safely in its control panel. There are many instances when a circuit breaks - why couldn't the TARDIS pull those circuits back together?

9. What's the "actual" TARDIS?

Its 'soul'. Why are there not loads of TARDIS souls around (or why haven't there been? Why are the Frankenstein Time Lords so shocked to see this happen?)

10. He is not a human and his real love has always been the TARDIS.

Oh no...according to 'The Doctor Who TV Special', he is part-human on his mothers side! But everyone else pretends that never happened.

Besides: The Doctor is human in appearance and acts like a human (and if you say the 11th Doctor does not act like a human - he does! He just acts like a 5 year old in an Apple Shop!). He has standards!!

I know its a really childish complaint. But, honestly, wouldn't that have been much better? (And no, I'm not a Tennant fan-boy)

If you liked the episode - fine - But I didn't. If you liked it, then good for you - you are able to enjoy things much more. But I personally think the writers have ruined yet another trademark of the series. In my opinion, its so incompetent that you would have had to try to be this bad....

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Actually, if you complain about this in this episode then you should reaaaaallly hate RTD's episodes cause there is almost never something logical in those episodes.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Such as? The only abominable thing I can remember RTD doing is giving the TARDIS a heart (ITS. A. TIME MACHINE!!) and making the Doctor change the future (but it was resolved very quickly, prompted a really great moment, and the special was excellently done apart from that - so I usually let it slip. Its not like the Christmas special when time gets completely screwed and no-one mentions it). Sure, there is the giant Transformer Cyberman, everyone in the world turning into the Master, and Captain Jack turning gay (he seemed perfectly straight in Series 1) - but most of those are stupidly awesome.

Most of the worst episodes/moments from the RTD Era were not done by RTD *cough*Love and Monsters*cough*

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

RTD wrote Love and Monsters dude, that episode is terrible.

RTD is a crappy writer, he does not know how to take his sometimes great ideas and make something good out of it. He is way to silly and does not add anything good to the series. Like with the monsters in "Aliens in London" and "World War Three", monsters that fart when they are in a human body. Seriously RTD you need to grow up... and finally when those episodes are over he did another one later on in the same series.
He can make sad moments but most of the time nothing makes sense. Like when the planet Gallifrey is about to crash on earth in The End of Time. Seriously he needs to learn some science. Gravity would fail so much and it just wouldn't be possible. He doesn't really do very well overall. Like in the first episode. The monsters there are the dolls in the shops... woow how long have they been there? It leaves up so many questions it's just not possible.

RTD I loved that you brought Doctor Who back but seriously you can't write.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Lucas wrote:

Oh crap, he did. OK, he has made some crappy stuff. Yeah, the Slitheen were pretty stupid. Although, like 'The Silence' two parter - the monsters may be stupid (I cannot get over the suits. Who thought that was threatening in any way!?!) but the episode itself had a lot of tension. The Slitheen intended for the world to blow itself up by obliterating itself with nukes. That is entirely possible and plausible (its better than the evil plan to lock the Doctor in a box). Yes, the farting was ridiculously childish - I agree with you in every possible way on that.

And I actually liked 'Boom Town'. There was hardly any farting - and it had some nice humour/emotion. It downplayed the silly stuff about the Slitheen and introduced genuine emotion. It was filler, sure, but it was pretty good filler.

I would take a planet colliding into another over technology being overridden by LOVE. THRICE!! My suspension of disbelief can juuust reach the former...but no matter what - you cannot possibly come up with an explanation as to how love can be transferred into technology. You can get robots to fee emotion (through complex programming which would take days to explain), but you cant get that love to work like that! Its LOVE!!

Lucas wrote:

The monsters there are the dolls in the shops... woow how long have they been there?

Are you kidding? I have never been able to look at a shop window dummy the same again. That stuff terrified me!

RTD is no way the best Doctor Who writer - but I think he's passable. He's able to wrap up and introduce story arc's, introduced some really good concepts into the series (the time war, the parallel universe, bringing back the master, etc) and his 'Torchwood' work is actually really good. Bear in mind he was on a really heavy schedule, and thus doesn't have enough time for serious quality control. He had his bad moments (his really bad moments) but I think he has a lot of redeeming work.

Now Moffat on the other hand was without a doubt the best writer during the RTD era (with the exception of the 'Silence in the Library' two-parter, which was a little disappointing IMO). I'm sorry, but there was no excuse for approving 'Power Ranger Daleks' by saying that the Daleks are merely "props". NO THEY ARE NOT!! They are the most beloved Doctor Who monsters of all time! I'm sorry, but RTD NEVER did this! RTD never completely and seemingly deliberately ruin something! He created bad things, but he never took a previous beloved creation and then rape it in front of the fans!

And then, if that wasn't insulting enough, he completely ruined 'The Stone Angels' with two of the worst Doctor Who episodes of all time (yes, worse than 'Love and Monsters'....just). I dont care how much of a tight schedule you are on: you have to TRY to be that bad. Those three Episodes and the most recent one were, to me, completely insulting. To me, they are the equivalent of 'The Phantom Menace'. They are the equivalent of 'Batman and Robin'. They are the equivalent of 'Highlander 2: The Quickening'. Moffat nuked the fridge so bad it broke through the void and into Rose's universe! (In my opinion....)

And yeah, I know he didn't write this episode...but seriously? He approved this crap? As I said: I would have chased the writer out of the building with a flame-thrower if he pitched this idea to me!

And I still have no idea what happened in the final two episodes of Series 5. The second to last episode had without a doubt the worst filler I have seen - Why did the monsters all leave then come back? Why didn't they just take the Doctor then? Why do they fear the Doctor when he is unarmed and surrounded by your own footmen in addition to ships which could turn the Doctor into Time Lord beef jerky! And then we follow with the most confusing, mess of a climax that rips off the ending to Series 4. RTD never did that!

Oh, and have I not mentioned 'The Christmas Carol' - by far the worst Christmas Special not only in the history of Doctor Who but in the history of the BBC. And I'm not exaggerating.

Moffat was a brilliant writer. He had no reason whatsoever to screw up. I know he can write really good stuff - so it pains me so much to see him churn out shoddy, lazy scripts - and to approve work from other mediocre writers. RTD may have done stuff wrong, but this era - Moffat has hardly done anything right (the exception being Episode 2 of the current Series, which was better than anything from Series 5 IMO....but that's not saying much...)

But, this is all my opinion....

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Agreed with most of the above.

But as for the suits, maybe the Silence are aware of their own nakedness? If so they would need clothing, and for that, seeing as they have been on Earth since the dawn of man, they would need to get new clothes from somewhere. Maybe they're too busy too make their own, so it's just easier to steal human clothes? Personally I like the suits. mini/tongue

I think it might be because, at the beginning of the episode, the person with the TARDIS in her, had her "soul" removed.

Something to do with everything going boom or because the TARDIS knew they could work it out by themselves, having the power to see the future.

8. The TARDIS soul got lost out of the TARDIS so how would it be able to fix itself?

I meant all those 50 years where the TARDIS has been safely in its control panel. There are many instances when a circuit breaks - why couldn't the TARDIS pull those circuits back together?

Put it this way: Can a car fix itself?

He loves the TARDIS like you love a car, but you wouldn't love your wife like a car.

I personally thought it was nice to see a TARDIS based episode and the Ood just shows how common they are, really the Ood wasn't seen much, maybe it was just there to be in the preveiw so more people watch. One problem is that Rory "died" AGAIN! He is beginning to "die" every episode now.

I admit that I had to pause my DVR because I was laughing so much at the suits. My problem is that to me it removed all threat, because I cracked up every-time I saw them.
