Topic: Computer crashes while rendering

Ok, so i have a little problem.
whenever i render something that's a decent size (weather it be out of blender, premiere, after effects or whatever) my computer crashes.  the screen just goes blank and it dies.
i'm running a Toshiba Satellite L675 with Windows 7 (64 Bit)
idk if any of you guys know how to solve the problem, but if you do, please let me know mini/smile

Try and close as much open windows as you can so you have lots of ram left.

Re: Computer crashes while rendering

I'm not sure if this works with rendering, but it works with gaming and other programs I use. It sorta makes it run "better", it's kinda hard to explain, but whenever i use it, the program runs better. go CTRL+ALT+DEL and select task manager. Select the applications tab, right click on the program you want to work and stuff, and go to process. right click on the file that it goes to, and go Set priority > high > ok. It seems to work in my case:
In Visual Basic 2010, I'd click on a tab that would allow me to browse other files, but the program would crash/close; so I do what I explained above, and I now have the ability to browse through what I wanted to see. I've tried a couples times with and without it, and the outcome is the same.
Though, I've never had my entire computer crash, so I can't be sure on this one. Good luck!

For a moment there, I thought you were talking about rendering rain effects.  Whether.

Well there's your problem, you're running on a laptop.

With only 2 cores on an i3 and 4 GB ram, you're not going to get a faster performance.  As for it just crashing, maybe it's a hardware issue.  If you haven't already, give Toshiba a call.

Re: Computer crashes while rendering

That happened to me. You can't touch the computer while rendering.

Re: Computer crashes while rendering

I'd help if you posted your PC specs here, Stan!

Nothing beats an i7.

Re: Computer crashes while rendering

Hmmm.... I do a fair amount of rendering and something I've noticed is that the computer can get quite hot.  Especially on a laptop, the chance for the computer to lock up and shut down because of a heat related issue is pretty good if the computer is not well ventilated.  Make sure that all the fans are clear of obstructions and the comp is propped up to let air flow under the laptop.    Give that a try and let us know!

If I'm on the forums, I'm probably waiting for Blender to finish rendering.

Re: Computer crashes while rendering

This could be because of over heating, try putting the laptop in a cool room and a hard surface, no bed or carpet, also make sure no other heavy processes are running, even word and excel can be shut down and help. or you might want to use someone elses computer or get a desktop.
