Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I play portal 2 with XP, and it's not my "Special gaming computer", although it does have a lot of space and 2gb of RAM, but I think your computer it's ok.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I would have though that games like Mario and Zelda are more mainstream than most of the core Sony titles. In fact I'd think Sony titles are the nerdiest of the 3 consoles. Mario/Zelda and Halo/Gears are way more mainstream than games like Uncharted/GOW/Infamous/Killzone/Ico.

And Portal 2 should run fine if you bump down the settings a little.

These are the minimum settings, and to make sense of it, down near the bottom of the page there's a window which lets you compare your own specs - but you'll have to enter them manually.

You can check most of your specs my going Start>Accessories>Run and the  entering dxdiag and hitting enter. It'll bring up a window with your RAM and Processor listed. To check your graphics card, Start>Right click My computer>Manage. Hit Device Manager on the sidebar and then go into the "Display Adapters" drop down menu. Your card should be the one with a few numbers and letters through togther randomly with something like "Geforce" at the front.

They have Portal 2 listed as 3/10 on the scale, I don't have a gaming PC and I managed to get a 7/10, so you should be fine.

EDIT: If you had Portal 1 and it ran fine, you're all good. If you haven't played portal 1, there may or may not be a demo on Steam which you could download to see how it runs/looks yourself.

EDIT2: And Portal 2 is amazing. It blew away all of my expectations and surpassed portal 1 by lightyears. It really felt like a full proper experience with a fully fledged story. And Coop, it's just so much damn fun. I'm only like halfway through that, but it's just so bloody fun. I'ts like the most fun I've ever had in an online multiplayer game. Just make sure you do it with like a close friend and use voice chat. I can't imagine how annoying it would get trying to use the ping tool with some random idiot. Also, play with someone that's around your skill level. Having someone who is bossing you through the levels would suck all the fun out of it, as would having someone who dies at every corner. soo yah.

EDIT3: Yeah there's a demo for Portal

Is the demo free, Riley?

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

It's a demo. Of course it's free.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I finished Portal 2's single player at my friend's house in under 6 hours. Great campaign. Still suffers from Portal 1's issue. Length. Some of the puzzles are rather hard but it's still too short.

In other news, Social Club details for L.A. Noire have been released.

You get a free suit after linking your SC account, it improves your accuracy with a shotgun or machine gun.

And the map... http://media.rockstargames.com/lanoire/img/global/social_club-checklist.jpg

Looks huge.

And an extremely positive preview: http://www.msxbox-world.com/xbox360/fea … Sucks.html

What?
7/10 on my i5 - 750 gaming PC. How could you not have those specs with out a gaming PC?
Most people have a Core 2 Quad/Duo or an AMD quad core.
That gets lower. Also it it's greatly dependent on your resolution.

Anyone could run it though at minimum though:
Portal 2 Minimum System Requirements:

CPU - 1.7 GHz Processor

RAM - 512MB

Video Card - DirectX® 8.1 level Graphics Card (Requires support for SSE)

Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)/Vista/XP

Other - Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Gaming PCs tend to have more of a focus on the graphics card, since most games nowadays rely heavily on the gfx unit to construct the 3D, particle effects, shaders and physics. If you look at some of the lower end gaming PCs, you'll notice they have fairly average processors since not a lot of games need a CPU's grunt to run smoothly.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I finally have Portal 2 mini/bigsmile

But I can't play it online mini/blankexpression

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Strange, I just downloaded Steam so I could get a demo for Portal, but whenever I try to open it, it says "Steam is already running. You may only run one copy of Steam at a time." I went into task manager to check that it wasn't open, and it wasn't.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Is it open on a different computer? You can only be logged in to one computer at a time.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I only have it on my computer. And when I mean I try to open it, I don't mean log in, I mean open the actual program, like, double clicking on the icon on my desktop. mini/tongue

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Ah I see. That is a perplexing problem then, as I have not encountered it.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I encounter it all the time, try going into the hidden icons bar and closing steam if it's there. Otherwise a restart would be fine.

Just bought the Noble Map Pack for Halo: Reach. mini/bigsmile The upsetting part is I got a double kill from the grave today, but I didn't have the map pack yet. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/UberSocks/69.gif

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I can't play the demo because I do not have a Nvidia graphics card.

YAY. Thanks, I saw it there yesterday but couldn't close it for some reason, thanks!
EDIT: I have now made an account on Steam! I'm called TheWaddleDee. mini/tongue
EDIT EDIT: I just downloaded and played a demo of Portal, it works (so hopefully that means Portal 2 will work) but my only complaints are that the framerate was pretty slow and the audio glitched up sometimes.

Portal 2's giving me a headache. Thank God for online walkthroughs.

I suggest getting a PSP. DSi's are not that graphic gamewise as the PSP. I suggest getting the 3000. mini/wink

Now if only the PSP had as many interesting games as the DS.
