Topic: The Wilhelm Scream

I know certain people won't appreciate a video of this magnitude *cough* Pillow *cough* mini/smile

But if you are interested, I've just completed a (pretty) complete compilation video of The Wilhelm Scream.

Clicky!

If you're not familiar with it, read the info on the bottom of the video before watching it.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

Shouwdn't this be in "othew fiwms?"

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

Haha mini/tongue I don't like the Wilhelm scream because it's too recognizable and always puts me out of the movie, but awesome compilation, makes me want to rewatch a lot of these films. I love the one you spotted in Juno when they were watching 'Wizard of Gore', I never noticed that one. Also, I think there was another Wilhelm scream somewhere at the end of 'Tropic Thunder', but I'm not sure.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

I think they used the kid's wilhelm at the end of Tropic Thunder in the credits ad nauseum, so I didn't bother. mini/smile

And I wouldn't call it a film, Brickyman.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

Lotta cowboy movies.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

As funny as it is, I never noticed the Toy Story Scream until now, I guess Tim Allen and Wilhelm sound alike.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

So that's what that scream is called. Looking at the compilitation video, I see it's in a lot of my favorite animated movies.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Well, can't wait for the 15 minutes "The Brickfilm Wilhelm Scream Compilation".

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

Very clever.

Interesting how half the films with "the scream" in them were either westerns, Indiana Jones or Star Wars.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

I for some reason, don't count the scream as degrading the movie if the scream comes from a television or videogame in the movie.

I feel that a bunch of Just Kidden's work will be in that one.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

I loved this compilation. There were some parts where I would have never noticed that sound effect.

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

I spotted another one in '16 Blocks' during the chase sequence with the bus. I don't now the exact time because it was playing on television (breaks etc.).

Re: The Wilhelm Scream

Yeah, a Brickfilm Collection would be really cool (although pretty much all my films would feature in it)

My favourite has to be the 'Spaceballs' clip. I like the sound effect as long as the movie isn't taking itself too seriously. It can be a great comedic gag (I want the DVD of 'Rango' just to see if the scream was in it - since that would have been the ultimate reference in a movie packed full of them) and, as proven by the clips I had to re-watch because I missed the scream, a subtle tribute. I didn't like it in 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' since it was way too obvious - and there were much better moments where the scream could have been used as a tribute to the Indy Trilogy.

I've always assumed 'The Wilhelm Scream' is a sound you make during a very acrobatic death, such as being blown back by an explosion, being pushed/thrown off something, or - for its rumoured original purpose - eaten by a crocodile. Its a very contorted and unnatural sound that would only be made if your body is being forced into an unnatural and fatal situation.

Overused? Perhaps; but I dont think I myself will ever become tired of it.
