Topic: Making an image transparent in GIMP

Hey Guys,
I'm making a hand held camera test and I need to make an image I made in GIMP overlay onto my footage.
Any format, way I could could save so it's transparent? Thanks in advance,

Rob

Re: Making an image transparent in GIMP

I don't see how lowering the opacity wouldn't work to make it transparent.

You could also try to set the layer mode (top layer) as "overlay" or "grain merge".

Re: Making an image transparent in GIMP

Well, just saving the file as a PNG won't do you any good. You actually have to have transparent areas in your image to save. You'll need to add an alpha channel to the layer (Right click layer>Add Alpha Channel), then delete whatever parts you don't want to have showing.

Re: Making an image transparent in GIMP

Make sure your image doesn't have a background. (Photos that don't have backgrounds, usually have a checkered background to indicate transparency.) And then export it as a PNG.

What UniLego said. Or better yet, just create the image with a transparent background.
