Topic: Boats and Water

Hello,
After testing out ways to animates boats and ships at sea, I was wondering what the best way to create the water that splashes on the boat as it goes through the sea, I'm sorry I don't know exactly what to call it. Also, does anyone have any tips on animating the rocking motion that ships do while at sea, I can't seem to get it right.
Thanks

Re: Boats and Water

CGI is your best bet I'd say, unless you can't do CGI in which case I have no idea.

Cool, I can use blender, but any idea's on how to make a simple ripple effect?

Re: Boats and Water

How extensive is your Blender knowledge?

Re: Boats and Water

I'd have no idea since i have never really used Blender or CGI in general.

Here's a tutorial from the Wiki book Blender 3D: Noob to Pro.

Re: Boats and Water

I know how make water, but do you know a way to make water splahes in Blender? More to the point, like up against a hull of a ship, like in this picture: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h … 29,r:3,s:0

Re: Boats and Water

If I were you, I'd try to portray the water in shot, using techniques such as cling film or foil for the water (this is the best example I could find quickly - see 1:20). but that's just my preference, and if you feel you can create a good effect using CGI, then go for it, but I can't help you in that area.

Re: Boats and Water

That's a good idea, I think I'll try both foil and CGI and see which I prefer.
