Topic: need help with camera movement

Okay, here's the thing:
I animate with a digital camcorder canon ntsc ELURA 100,
And its pretty bulky, which makes camera movement a bit difficult.
Its to tall to just sit on the set, so i need suggestions on how to do camera movement.

Re: need help with camera movement

Something that I've been doing is putting the camera on a small LEGO board with some bricks to support it. Then I use a ruler to slide it exactly one centimeter per frame. I also have a ninja blade sticking out of it which helps measure it some.
I hope that helps. mini/smile

I also have another technique which it a little hard to explain, but I'll try to.
I call it camera whoosh movements. What you do is any camera movement such as a spin or zoom and you make sure the camera is actually moving a lot as you take the picture, which ads this beautiful blur effect. Try also to make it ease in and ease out. Because it's so blurry, it covers up mistakes really nicely, and the end effect looks amazing. I hope I explained that nicely.

Re: need help with camera movement

ok let me try to explain this better.
i know HOW to do camera movement, but my camera is to tall to sit ON the set and to bulky to move evenly around the set.

Re: need help with camera movement

Mmm... I'm not really sure.
Maybe you should just make some really tall supports for it...
Idk...
Get another camera, maybe? xD
Sorry if I' not much help. mini/tongue
Maybe you should post a picture so I know how it looks.

Re: need help with camera movement

It's possible to do this with Adobe After Effects. I know for this I got Stan the Lego Man (He's a whiz at SFX) to do it for me. I'd definitely advise getting the program, but if you can't afford it I would contact someone with it and ask them to do it for you. Hope this helped.

I'll be back animating soon! Exams and computer faults are keeping me away </3

I don't think he's talking about basic wiggle expressions in AE, if that's what you were showing on the video.

If your camera is too big, too tall, or whatever to actually be on the set, either get a ball-point (I think that's what they're called. Not sure, though) tripod head and use that to be able to insert the camera into the set, build larger sets (or easily disembodied for specific shots) or get your tripod a little farther away from the shot and zoom in a bit (optically).

Re: need help with camera movement

Raise the set and stand the camera next to it? If you can't get the exact shot you want with the equipment you have, think about different ways to frame and film the shot.

A picture of your problem would help us buddy.

Re: need help with camera movement

Just a tip that I thought of: if you have to have your camera on a tripod due to it's size, and if you want achieve actual camera movement in your animations such as dolly shots, perhaps you can just move the set. My camera is big compared to a little webcam so it sits upon a tripod. To do smooth dolly shots by moving the camera is a nightmare.
