Topic: Another Logi-tech Quickcam 9000 question...no controls?

Hi everyone.   I started brickfilming about two or three years ago, and made a few things I was very pleased with.  Then, due to lack of physical space, I had to give it up for a while.  Now that I'm ready to start up again, I notice that the software for my webcam (see title) has been updated, and I no longer seem to be able to have the option of controlling the camera.  This can't be right!?

I use Monkey Jam, and it used to be that when I hooked up my camera, it would bring up a  little control panel, so I could control my zoom, focus, lighting, and that kind of thing.  None of that seems to be an option any more.   Or if it is, I don't know where to look. 

To clarify, I am able to get a picture.   I just have no way of controlling it.  So, I'd be able to make a really crappy, out of focus brickfilm, but that's about it.   I'm hoping there's something real simple that I'm missing, and it's not the case that Logitech decided to "improve" their software by taking away everything that might be useful to a brickfilmer.   

If anyone could help shed some light on this, I'd be much obliged.

They updated the software and took away all the manual controls for some reason. Apparently you can still get the old version of the software on the Logitech site but it's not something I've done myself.

Really?  Well, that's just wrong.   I wonder why they went and did a daft thing like that.

I'm sure I must have the original disc somewhere (not put away where it belongs), though, so it'll probably be okay.

For Windows 7 computer, go to the Capture box where you see what te webcam sees, then go to video settings, then camera dialogs at the top, and then device. You should be able to change stuff to where you want it. This is just for Windows 7. For other computers, it might be the same, I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

Thank you,  Chris.   I realize this thread is a couple months old now.  I had pretty much given up, but now my kid wants to do a brickfilm, so I'm back here again, and just saw your reply. 

I've got Windows Vista, but what you describe does work for adjusting lighting and that kind of thing.  However, there is still no way of manually focusing, or doing any kind of panning or tilting.   It's mostly the manual focusing option that I'm missing. 

The worst thing is that I've got the original software drivers somewhere in my house, but I can't find the disk.  Argh!

ETA:  I'm a little confused, because I'm seeing posts from people who seem to be very happy with this camera, even if they only bought it recently, and presumably have the newer software.  I would think that a camera without manual focus controls would be undesirable for brickfilming.

Actually, you still have manual controls, you just need to go to "advanced controls". The only thing they took away was white balence control. You can control that through MonkeyJam's video options, though. All that really changed was the interface and look, both of which are stupid.

Thank you for that.  I just spent some time trying to find these manual controls.  It looks like what you do is set up manual focus through the QuickCam interface before connecting the camera to Monkey Jam.  It hadn't occurred to me that you could do that, because it previously looked like the two interfaces were completely separate.   I've always just plugged in the camera and gone straight to MJ without bothering to use the QC interface at all.
