Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

I have a question. I'm sorry if I annoy anyone, but I just want to double check on something. If, say I wanted to make something based on an ancient myth, but tying it in with WW1/2 a bit, would that get any sort of good marks? Because I was thinking about doing a film about the ancient Egyptian story of Osiris, and how apparently theres a tomb somewhere containing his mummy. Then I was kind of hoping to join it in with Nazis and kind of make it like an Indiana Jones/The Mummy film. I wouldn't have mummies coming to life, or anything like that, but would it be aloud being as its based on a myth, with adventure and stuff like that tied into it?
Thanks. mini/smile

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

some one said up to 1960's is History

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Well I'd say anything in the past is history.

I've finally realised my film idea. I think it will be epic, so you guys will probably hate it.
Breaks a lot of new ground for me I hope I can find the time to make it happen.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

I'm thinking of doing a detective story from the 1800s..... mini/confused .... I need some inspiration
*edit*
This might sound stupid... but I making a story like Sherlock Holmes, but I've changed up the names totally and added another person (a girl) to the 'team,' but it's still in london in the 1800s and the character 'replacing' sherlock is kind of the same.... is that ok?? Also the problem is sherlock Holmes-ish.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Question: Would it be okay to show a history of Lego's themes and how they've changed over the years?

Thanks guys for giving me an answer to this, but I would like to have someone who's actually got something to do with the contest to answer it as well, being as I want to definitely know for sure if this ideas okay. Sorry for having to ask that though, especially twice.

Something that would fit in the realm of "historical fiction" would be fine.

Historical=WW1/2
Fiction=discovering the tomb.

As this is from Smeagol, I think this answers your question.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

The point of the contest is for entries to showcase history as a theme. The better a job your entry does of that, the better your chances are.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Okay then, so an ancient Egyptian myth will work, thanks guys. Even if I left the WW2 stuff out, the myth would still hopefully qualify as 'historic'. Although I do like the idea of joining it up with WW2, adding some action and adventure in.
Cheers mini/smile

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

What does "unlisted youtube videos" mean?

I need a new name! HELP

When you search "This Pie" on YouTube you will get various results. If you have a video about "This Pie" that you would like only a selected audience such as a friend by un-listing the video only your Friend or whoever else has the link can watch that video about "This Pie".
In short, only people with the link can watch it.
Hope that helps mini/smile

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Im sure this has been answered, but since i've been dead for the paste decade and there are 27 pages to sift through, i'll just ask it again.

If I were to take an ancient story and move it into modern times, would it be acceptable?
Say... Hamlet with a modern age school setting or something (←not what i'm wanting to do, btw)

I LURK MORE THAN I POST]

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

I don't think so. I'm sure that for it to be called Historical Fiction, it has to be set sometime in the past.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Are we allowed to show a little bit of the present and a little bit of the future, but mostly history?

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Let's examine the first sentence of the first post again.

Smeagol wrote:

Entrants for this contest are asked to tell a story rooted in history.  Entries may be based on actual events, or simply include historical settings, people, and/or events as central elements of the story.

That sentence leaves a lot of room for interpretation, and it seems that a good number of people are trying to overthink it or find some strict set of limitations in which to box up their ideas. This is a flawed approach, not to mention that it requires the asking and reasking of questions that don't need to be brought up.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to call anyone out or bust anybody's chops. I want to help you all out. Help me help you.

So, can your entry be a retelling of historical events, or perhaps even myth? Sounds like it to me.
Can your entry be based in modern day and revolve heavily around events of the past? I think that would "include historical settings, people, and/or events as central elements of the story."
Should you make a grisly Werewolf Nazi Pirate slasher? Perhaps. Remember, however, that history is to be central to the film, not merely a springboard from which to leap off into a cesspool of pre-made ideas.

Seriously, guys, just ask yourself if history is central to your entry. There are so many different ways to explore such a theme and it would be a crying shame if all the contestants took a similar approach.

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

I don't wanna search trough the thread to find the answer but.
How much are we allowed to release? Like a 30 second trailer or a 10 second sneak peek?
Are we even allowed to show anything?

Re: BiM 2011: TOY [CLOSED]

Sounds Awesome!!! I got some good ideas.
