Topic: Fire Hazard?

It is a common trick among us brickflmers to put a piece of paper over the lamp to diffuse the light thus reducing light flicker. I'm a little
concerned about the safety of it all though. Im currently using 60w lightbulbs and they get extremely so I'm afraid the paper will catch fire. I
know with moderation it should be fine but I'm just wondering... has anyone had any bad experiences with the paper over the lamps?

Yeah that's really dangerous cause I nearly burnt my house down when I left it alone...  mini/no

With 60w lightbulbs, it shouldn’t cach on fire, you just got to make sure the paper is not toching the light bulb.

use fluorescent light bulbs.   i've accidentally left my lamps on for several hours and they haven't heated up at all.

Someone told me those energy saving flourescent lightbulbs can cause cancer because of their radiation. mini/dizzy
I use 100w bulbs with no paper and I'm fine.

True animators do not fear fire - the risk comes with the art.

I haven't had any bad experiences with it, although I understand the concern.

I haven't ever seen my lamps catch fire but once the paper got a bit burnt, but i think that was due to the fact that they were not very good lamps. So i would recommend using good lamps.

i do to. i don't just use my lights for animation. they light up my whole room- so i keep them on all day, i read, play games, and watch t.v, with them on. (and i don't take the paper off, cuz i don't eel like putting it back on) my lights don't burn because (i think) the distance from the metal to the light bulb is so far apart it can't heat up.

I just make sure I don't leave them unattended. They do get pretty hot though.

Well i do know a light in my hose that can make paper catch on fire mini/sweat it can get from 1 degree to 100 in ten seconds mini/what

I got a couple of new cheap lamps (thanks to the Daily Express newspaper) and I burnt a hole in my chair with a lamp covered with paper before.

If you are worried about fire do this, or get light gels, I use them on 1000W lights and they do not melt or burn.
