Topic: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

There's a USB port on the side of the camera, which does work for downloading in photos. Pictures can be taken while it is connected, as well, and immediately downloaded using the Canon EOS Utility (that came with the camera). However, the Frame Capture program I am attempting to use, Zu3D, does not recognize any Capture Devices from my PC.

Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem might be? I've read a lot of talk on here about using Firewire connections, but this one is a USB. Does that make a difference? Is the Rebel XT just not compatible with Zu3D? Thanks, anyone.

oh my gosh i hate zu3d it dosent work for me

Hi

Re: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

Its compatible with Dragon but it doesn't have live view. I've heard good things about dragon, but its pretty expensive.

Re: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

dragon is about 300 dollers so its preatty cheap for a top noch animation program but for a hobby its kind ok a high price.

Hi

Re: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

sorry i ment kind of.

Hi

Re: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

Huh. So Dragon is the only one that's going to work with my camera? That's kinda disappointing. Sure there's no way to, say, write a macro to have it work with Helium Frog? I'm not extremely knowledgable about how the frame capture programs communicate with cameras... but it seems like if the Canon EOS Utility program can remotely take a picture, then a frame capture should be able to as well.

Darkmarer, the edit button is offered for a reason. In the future, please use it. mini/smile

As for Captain_Clams, I have a couple of questions for you.
Have you tried any other frame-capture programs? Different programs will have varying amounts of success, as illustrated here by Dragon.

Also, have you thoroughly checked the camera's documentation or tried calling tech support? It may be a bit  like pulling teeth, but I'd say it's worth a try.

What operating system are you trying to use? It's possible that you may need to use Windows XP or the equivalent Mac OS, due to the age of the camera. I had the same issue arise when I upgraded to a Canon Powershot S3 IS, which is from a similar timeframe.

Re: Canon Rebel XT for use with Zu3D

Well, I tried Helium Frog first, which from what I've read seems to be a pretty smooth program. I had some installation problems with it, though, never got it to work (it asked for a DirextX "direct source" driver, and I didn't know what to give it).

Anasazi required internet to install, which my laptop does not support, even with a direct LAN feed.

Um. I think that's all I've tried. Anyway, moral of the story is that yes, Zu3D is the only one that I've gotten to work on the laptop. The laptop, by the way, runs Windows 7, which seems in itself to be fully compatible with the camera. You're probably right though, it probably will become an issue of just finding a frame capture program that smiles kindly upon Rebel XT's.

Edit: Another thing, I've started to read through the booklets that came with the camera, but I soon realized that I didn't know what I was looking for... What kind of specs would be helpful to me for doing what I'm doing? Connectivity to the computer is not the issue; the camera shows up under Devices on Windows, so it's recognized. At that point I feel like the booklet has done all it can do.. But am I wrong?

Look for the term tethering. Live view really doesn't have any relevance to frame capture.

As a fellow Canon Rebel User, (I have the T1i), I may be able to help.  EOS Utility should allow you to take pictures from your computer, change all the settings (except for zoom and focus) from the computer, and store them in a folder of your choice.  It also should have live view (a separate window).  You need a seperate program to cram all the photos together (edit them), and it doesn't support onion skinning, but it should do the trick.  That is, if your camera and EOS version are supported for all that.

Right, from what I've read, live view more or less refers to what shows on the LCD screen on the back of the camera, which you can output to a computer with analog cables, but the watermarks and such would be on there still. I imagine quality would suffer a bit as well.

And as for what BWJCLego was saying... Are you saying you use the Canon EOS Utility package that came with the camera to take the pictures, and use a frame capture program just to edit them?
