I really like this film. Night on Earth is up next.
Give me something minimalistic with a great story any day. (Reservoir Dogs, Dead Man, and so many others).
Agreed, but you should probably watch some films that are really seen as minimalist (Bresson, Ozu, Snow) before using that term freely. For some people, even the use of an atmospheric soundtrack in Dead Man excludes it from that category.
How can you plan a 3rd film when you haven't even made the second? This is madness. A ploy to drum up more money.

Ah, yes. I still really want to check out Ozu, my library has about five of his films, I was going to get them this Saturday. I also got City of Sadness, by the way, but I still need to watch it.

Yes, referring to the films. The success of a book doesn't always equal the success of a film (Eragon, anyone?)
Ah, Eragon. What a flop. I enjoyed it to be honest, the story was put onto the big screen pretty decently which happens rarely nowadays. The acting was... poor, though. Apart from Jeremy Irons, he's great.
Speaking of book-to-movie flops - Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Excusing the fact it took out half the things from the book... there isn't terribly much else to say. Okay, there is, but I'm not the one to say it.
And Pillow, why the random bold t in 'about'?
To be honest, I didn't think much of Eragon when I read the book in the first place. Too much plagiarism of ideas, too much sloppy characterization, and not enough quality to merit the amount of praise it received.

I agree with you to an extent. However, there were enough (relatively) fresh, or at least underused, ideas to keep me interested. I'm not rating it as my favourite book, or even in the top 100, but I think it was good. Better than the movie, which is what I was comparing it to. There were some points in the book, however, where I agree completely with you.
'Eragon' (the book) was OK. Although, I was a kid when I read it, but I liked it and though the film could have been much worse. My biggest problem with the book was how slow it moved in the second act - which is obviously fixed in the movie. The film missed out several elements - originally Eragon was captured by Durza (the shade) and was in prison. Eventually Eragon got his powers back and broke out, where he happened to meet Arya the elf. In the movie however, they actually make a special journey to the prison - where they only come across resistance when they are discovered - forgetting that the prison is miles away (as soon as they decide to go there, we jump-cut straight to them at the prison) and is the worst place for a Dragon Rider to go!
'Eldest' is basically 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Eragon goes to train with a retired Dragon Rider. Then, he leaves before he can complete his training due to visions of his friends in danger - but vows to return. Upon his return, he is defeated by a dark magician in a duel - who reveals himself to be a relative (although, no cry of "NNOOOOOO!!!"). At the end, they prepare to rescue a close companion who has been kidnapped. Its actually an OK book, but it wouldn't work as a movie due to the lifted plot.
'Brisingr' is much better, although it seems like its building up to a climax....but there isn't one. It was meant to be the last book, but at the last minute was changed into a Quadrilogy - so instead it ends with a pointless and obvious death. Its a good book, and might sort of work as a film.
Anyway, this should belong in another topic, so I'll end it here.

It actually sounds like a total ripoff of "The Empire Strikes Back".
It totally is. And the beginning of the film has echoes of A New Hope as well.

I agree with you on everything, and would like to point out that Eldest sucks. Also, don't forget the romance between a family member and a close friend (changed only by the fact that it is a brother not a sister). Brisingr could have been so much better, had it just been compressed.
Sorry, I'm finished with books now, though they are related to the topic in both Max's and my own defense.

Well it's not like I watch this film for the first time but I sure enjoy it a lot. Me being a frickin B-movie fan is just the reason why I loved both "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror" so much 
it was very entertaining!

Thats why 'Brisingr' is better - because it doesn't rip off 'Return of the Jedi'...much.

What is it with British Films. They have such awful plot synopsis's, but work so well. The last British movie I watched was about a group of terrorists failing to be terrorists. This one is about six unemployed, working class men trying to form a male strip-group.
And...it works. There are a few butts, but nudity is not the point (although at the beginning, the protagonist wants to do it just because of women...but later needs to do it for a job). I have no idea if its available in America, or if any of its themes and charm will be lost overseas - but its another brilliant comedy that shouldn't work, but does.
First Blood
First time watching it, pretty badass. Also kinda tragic... Poor Rambo.
Now to watch the Turkish version.
