I have another contest you might be interested in. Ones and Zeros Pixelshow www.onesandzeros.webs.com is hosting a LEGO Flick Building Contest  www.LEGOFlickBuildingContest.com where flick builders have a chance to win prizes and have their film shown at the LEGO Universe Pixelfest August 13-14.

No entry fee at the moment, so enter early.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

I'm glad to see that you have an option for online submissions - you may want to mention that on your webpage. Also, is there any way you can clarify the categories, the judging, and the prizes?

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

The Website will be up in the next couple of weeks, but prizes will be provided by LEGO/LEGO Universe. Not sure what they are yet, but winners will be shown at the LEGO Universe Pixelfest in Broomfield, CO, which is where the LEGO Universe development team is located, and expect to have some dealer tables, a LEGO city fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation and some other goodies.

Unlike most, this is not a "brick film" but "LEGO Flick" contest, with the cooperation of LEGO Universe providing support to our nonprofit running the contest/festival, and we're working on things like exposure.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

Will the judging be focused on technical aspects like animation, or the more important  things like story and creativity?

Is sexual or violent themes allowed?

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

One of the things I like about LEGO movies is the fact that it's democratic, so it's something anyone can do, so I'm just as impressed with a great idea done well with the technology available (no matter how low) as I am having expensive equipment. I'm also impressed by the level of quality some people achieve, so I imagine that will be where categories come in, though I haven't finalized those, yet and am open to suggestions. Technique and creativity ought to both be recognized.

As for sex, etc., I imagine the main show will be kid-friendly, but I also run a Hueso de Perro's Grindhouse off the grid where I hope to show the mature films I get. I doubt LEGO will provide them with prizes, but I want to find a way to honor and show those at the festival as well.

As for judges, two-time Academy Award nominated "King of Independent Animation" Bill Plympton has agreed to select the Grand Prize winner from the finalists, and I expect I can get David Hand, Jr., whose father directed Bambi and was the number two man at Disney, to judge some as well. And there's me going through the slush pile.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

Those are some impressive names - it'll be interesting to watch this contest play out.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

The contest is still very much on, but as I'm sure a lot of you guessed, I've been trying to navigate the proper use of the LEGO logo, etc. They are providing PR and prizes, but only the LEGO company can use the name. So it's now called www.buildabrickbuster.com. Once the Website is live, I'm going to solicite everyone to submit through the site - and I expect to have it up within a week. But bear with me - the approval process is sometimes longer than I expect.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

I remember the deadline is July 1st or something. So is there an estimated time range? I don't want to get too ambitious.

Re: LEGO Flick Building Contest

I'm leaving it open to pretty much any length - I just want to find the best. I figure I'll make categories based on what I get that just happens to fit a theme.

I'm looking for beta-testers - try submitting something: www.buildabrickbuster.com.
