Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Rango

Pretty great. I have admiration for movies that are bold enough to be a little "out there" and have surreal elements, sophisticated humor, obscure jokes etc. in a manner that may surprise people and be at the expense of turning off some of the possible audience.  Especially with a film on this scale, it was fun to see that, because the major animation studios like Dreamworks, Blue Sky, and, yes, Pixar tend to play things safe and formulaic.  The frequent tonal shifts and sort of "off-beat" feel of the film reminds me of "new guard" films like Bonnie and Clyde in the best sense.  Not really a kids' movie, certainly not for young kids.  It's unfortunate that talking animals or animation seem to automatically sideline a film as just for children, Babe: Pig in the City is another example of a film with mostly adult humor and high amount of violence that suffered from that when it came to marketing.

They Live
Had to watch it again after talking about, stil such an awesome movie after seeing it many times. I love how they have Geiger counters as walky-talkies. And I didn't think the the fight was too long,  it was symbolic.

He's right.

Zombie Flesh Eaters AKA Zombi 2
Haha, awesome Grindhouse zombie movie. Loved the shark part

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Silent Night, Deadly Night
Great flick, had some fun scenes.

Girl Walks into a Bar
They made this movie only for the internet, it's free to watch on YouTube. It had a pretty impressive cast, some of the dialogue could have been polished, and the acting wasn't perfect but it was really entertaining for what it was. It's only 80 minutes of length so it's definately worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D4yQPQfFQM

Really great, I loved it. Going to watch it with commentary soon.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Secret of Kells
I really liked this film. The visual style was quite distinctive and the story was rather charming.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox
This was another rather unique animated feature, but I didn't walk away with the same sense of enjoyment. I've heard that director Wes Anderson has an unusual style, so it may just be that it didn't exactly jibe with me. The voice acting was really great and I enjoyed the stop-motion. All in all, I may not have enjoyed it, but I liked seeing something different in the genre of children's animated films.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Thing
One of the best sci-fi films ever made, in my opinion.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Rango
I didn't really think I was going to enjoy this film, but it was great! The acting from the cast was for the most part great, and it had a good story line and it was well paced. 5/5

Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom
Where do I start? This film is just... wow. I can't ever imagine a film being more disgusting and horrifying to watch
than this film. The story  is set in 1940s Italy, and Nazi-Facists kidnap 16 teenagers and torture them horribly in a remote estate. This film nearly made me puke near the end, i've seen plenty of disgusting films, but this one nearly made me vomit because of some scenes. If you don't have a strong stomach, this film is no way going to be okay for you. Consumption of poop? Yes, loads. Also there is so much sex, it's just impossible to come out of that film not feeling weird. This film is probably the first film I've ever seen that I felt sick after watching. It's just messed up.

Spoiler (click to read)

I nearly puked after they lit the guys thing on fire.

I keep asking myself now... why the hell did my library have this on the shelf?

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. DO NOT.

I like pixar but they are formulaic.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Pixar is quite formulaic, they just do it well.  They make good films but for the most part I don't think they're particularly bold or innovative, at least not since Toy Story.  It gets boring after a while.  Their movies have mostly gotten to a point of being what you would expect them to make.

mini/twitch Please kill me...

Anyway, MONSTERS INC.
Man, I love this film, "Boo" is absolutely adorable. The only slightly bad thing that I can point out is it ended a little suddenly. But I still love this film A LOT.
