Topic: Unhelpful forums...

If someone asks a question your response shouldn't be "google"
No one wants their answer from their question on a forum to be that. Plus im smart enough to look it up before i turn to 1/4 of a community that can't give a better answer then to say search it. For whatever reason the forum search doesn't work for me and i try google but their isn't just these questions being answered on random websites. I think saying some helpful information or just not saying anything at all is better then idiotic responses saying search it. Im sure most people that ask the questions have searched it or don't want to hear that. So i ask of some people on the forum to just stop. mini/blankexpression

Re: Unhelpful forums...

If you're going to sling around accusations like this, I suggest you provide some pertinent examples.

Re: Unhelpful forums...

look on most of my posts, and or others posts.

Re: Unhelpful forums...

Actually, Jargon, you're a pretty good example of what silents429 is talking about.

Re: Unhelpful forums...

Yeah Jargon, get your head in the game.

Now to address the original post:
After a quick review of your old posts, it looks to me like most of the people in the past who have suggested that you "Google it" post lmgtfy links that bring you straight to the answers you are requesting (or you could have plugged your question into Google and come up with a suitable response), so I have some trouble feeling pity for you. The fact of the matter is that there are a few questions that are ridiculously common around here which can be found easily through a little bit of searching. It's incredibly infuriating to see someone ignore that. I understand that sometimes you just can't find things due to a bad search or whatnot, and I agree that someone who makes a post requesting information on a forum should have done their research beforehand. Sadly, they often don't. Should people give every question equal care and attention? Sure, but they won't. Demanding that they do so won't really help things.

Re: Unhelpful forums...

If a Google search provides the exact information a thread is looking for, I'm sorry, but LMGTFY links are 100% justified. And even if the search function is unusable, it's possible to look through the first few pages of the appropriate forum manually to see if a topic has already been created.

That said, people who just post "search it" deserve to be hit with blunt objects. There's no way of knowing whether or not a search will pull up the appropriate threads unless you actually perform said search, and if you've done that much, you might as well link the results. Personally, I usually use a comment about the search function as the link.

You want us to change your diaper and give you a lollipop too?  Why should we do the work for you when you are more than capable of doing it yourself, Instant-gratification-Net-Generation babies.

lechnology always knows what to say.
google as a reply should always be adequate
because in the forums we see the same topics everyday
either you google it and do the research yourself or look in past threads, BiM isnt to old.

Re: Unhelpful forums...

Just for the record, I have never replied to a request or question with "google." I will definitely bring up the fact that the information can be easily found by searching, however, if that is the case. Research is not for the lazy, friends.
