I recently used shiny scotch tape (shiny like LEGO surfaces) to make LEGO bricks that don't hinge, hinge, for my forthcoming Avante-Garde film. I found that the "invisible" Scotch clear tape has a matte finish and actually shows up and looks worse than shiny tape when put on shiny LEGO bricks.
