With all due respect, your mods need to grow up, but first they need to get their heads out their behinds.

Good point, the mods were definitely the ones filling a thread with nonsensical ramblings that failed to form any sort of cohesive story, and much of the time didn't even satisfy basic rules of English grammar.

I'll save you the time it would take to type the response to this by saying that while fun is good and great, it would be nice if people would consider that this is a film-making site. To call something like that thread collaborative or building a fine sense of community might be a good indicator of why people get frustrated with this community and its tastes. The thread was filled ten pages with scatological humor, the constant killing of the main character, and half of the people fighting to reverse what the previous posters did. Meanwhile the forums devoted to helping people learn to make brickfilms are left largely neglected. If the community is devoted to creating and helping others create films, a pathetic thread like that does nothing to help the people be more creative, unless you consider creativity avoiding every obstacle in the way of telling a story and making use of constant deus ex machina. It wasn't collaborative, unless the definition of collaboration somehow involves people making vaguely tangential posts in the same thread. As for bringing the community together, unless you wanted a community whose main goal is to create silly stories, what's the point of bringing them together to do just that?

It's not like we killed the thread at it's inception. Believe me, the thought certainly crossed my mind, and likely the minds of other mods who have, like me, seen threads go exactly the same way this one did. We didn't close it. We could have, but we didn't, because: first, we knew someone would throw a fit, and second, we thought maybe it would be nice to see if the community could come together and make that thread into something worth having on the site. We gave it a chance. Of course, your post is jumbled enough I can't really understand what you are mad about to begin with. You seem to think that because it went decently for the first few pages, the mods are pricks for closing it when it turned to utter tripe. You insult the mods and then immediately agree with what they did. That makes no sense at all, but it should be apparent by now that I'm not happy to see it. We work hard to try to keep you people from cluttering the site with things like that for a reason. We aren't here to give you jollies; we're here to make sure the site continues to be the best resource for budding brickfilmers to learn the hobby. Things like this distract from that purpose, and so we close them.

I didn't call for the thread to be closed. I didn't close it. Nonetheless, I agree with the decision wholeheartedly, and I get really tired of listening to people whine about how whatever special interests they have are being killed by the moderators. We don't just do this stuff because we like to hear the complaints. We don't want to be killjoys. There are more important matters in the grand scheme of things than a nonsensical story thread, and we're going to do what we think it takes to promote the betterment of the hobby. Take it or leave it.

Wow. Your going giant gourd today huh, Squash?

I loved the thread but I kinda saw the end coming. So I just made the best of it.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Café Corner

Though the Story thread was pretty freaking hilarious at times (most particularly Jargon's stuff), the whole thing was pretty pointless. I believe there's been like 2 other threads like that that all got locked before.

Those threads just don't really work with the age-range of this site, I guess. That thread could have been a whole lot better if people were to have just put thought into their sentences instead of posting for the heck of it.

Re: Café Corner

@Squash

Dude. I corrected myself.

I haven't taken on board what you said, because I enjoyed that thread, so did many other people and I won't let you take it away. It was fun while it lasted and I don't condemn those who shut it down because it did get silly at the end, but, your point on 'film-making' community is in the wrong context. The community section is not for film-making, it's for getting to know your fellow animators. To be yourselves and I'm afraid some enjoy fart jokes. I don't condemn the moderators.

I didn't want to make deal of it, but just to stay thanks to guys to contributed and made an awesome FIRST story. I'm sorry I can't see it from your angle, but to me, it was a upbuilding.

Just one more thing. We've all got to remember, that the end of the day (all though brickfilming is an art) we are all just a bunch of guys and girls who play with Lego. That's immaturity. But it's maturity to except that and to be yourself, whatever your age, and not to look at yourself as higher than the other, because you play with Lego as well.

Be yourself, have fun, have a laugh - that's a community, and that's what I got from that thread before it went got a little too silly mini/tongue

Re: Café Corner

Alright, I think talking about the thread is over. It was cool at first, people started to make fart jokes, the thread got closed. End of story.

Re: Café Corner

Yeah, besides, BiM could be cool and groovy if we all just got along.

@BrickymanAmen brother, Amen

@Ratboy, I didn't mean it in an offensive way against you, I was talking to everyone. I just think it's kinda getting old that we keep talking about it.

I've been up for 43 hours just because of the LAN Party. Jeez they're so fun. My computer almost crashed

Re: Café Corner

So I'm going to be in London the week of Easter (April 24th-28th). Anyone up for a UK brickfilmers meetup? I want to meet some people rather than sitting atop a double-decker bus looking like a dumb American tourist.

The Let's Write a Story thread. I personally am against the closing. Let the little kids have fun. Ah, alas, it is too late... mini/sad

Re: Café Corner

On a different subject, I'm going to have to order a ton of bricks for my upcoming film, which will cost between 20 and 30 pounds.

Re: Café Corner

Well, a while back I got a £20 voucher for lego.com, so I won't be using bricklink this time.

Re: Café Corner

I suppose that makes sense then. Personally I'd save that for something that I can only buy on LEGO.com, and buy a bulk of bricks on BrickLink... But if you don't have anything else to do with the voucher, it's a good opportunity to use it.

Re: Café Corner

Is Bricklink cheaper than Pick-A-Brick? I never thought it was, but then again I've not yet used either of them.

Come up to Scotland, and I'll be happy to join you. London's a bit too far away. Try Cupar, or Dundee.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.
